Dre stared down the likes of:
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Trevor Siemian
Ryan Tannehill
Kevin Hogan
Cody Keeler
Tyrod Taylor
Ryan Mallett
Tom Savage
RGIII
Brady and Cousins lit them up.

Lot of people who know little about the NFL but simply hate Bama and anything remotely related to it in this thread.
If Dre sucked, the Bengals could have let him walk. If he didn't have other offers as leverage, they could have signed him for less than the $10M/year average he got.
Obviously there were several NFL teams who wanted him, including the one team that knows the most about him - Cincy. They'd already paid him $16M+ in his first five seasons, including picking up the 5th year club option on his rookie contract for $7.5M in 2016.

He gave up two significant pass plays in both of those games. That doesn't fit your little narrative though.

I know that the NFL GMs are afraid of the unknown and prefer to stick with what they have, even if it is only average. The Bills just signed Hyde to a big contract, and he was 60/112 on that list.

Nope, he just envious, congrats to Swag on the contract.

I truly don't follow AU's players in the NFL. Other than Cam, who is considered a good NFL player?
I know Dansby is still playing, so he'd have to be considered so. Fairly just got $30M. Who else?

Fairley is a good example of todays market. He hasn't don't anything to garner a $30M contract, but GMs are fearful of Draft busts. Better to go with an average player that produces something, than to take a chance with a draft pick. It is all about job security for them.

"...or baseball, basketball, and now gymnastics"
I'll give you baseball but are you as an LSU fan really going to call out Bama fans for their support of basketball and gymnastics? Alabama basketball has significantly outdrawn LSU basketball attendance wise for nearly 50 straight years and we were getting 15,000 for some gymnastics meets before LSU fans realized they had a gymnastics program.

Is the only collegiate sport where the participants are over the hill before they start.

Most of those 15K where "Stage Mothers" or perverted middle age men trying their best to pretend to be fans of the sport.

I'm sure you went to get a early look at who would make the US Olympic Team.

I'll admit he is a good corner, but I'm not sure he's worth 10 million a year. He's not a shutdown guy. But if I were a GM I'd keep him or try to sign him.

The majority of people I knew that went when I was in college were old ladies and families with little girls. It was almost the exact same demographic that filled up Lady Vols games in Knoxville for all those years.

I was pretty stoked when "over the hill" Terin Humphrey attended Alabama while I was a student.

If Robert frickin Alford is getting 4 years / $38M then I have no idea what the CB market is these days.

I think Bama could draw the same crowd if they established a baton twirling team or a dance line team. Those businesses make a fortune in Alabama.
And Ladies Basketball is not too far off on the scale of excitement.
