It was made illegal to possess the spice in 2010. Just like it is illegal to possess marijuana, not test positive in a drug test. To my knowledge, no player was ever arrested for possessing spice. The NCAA made it a violation for testing positive in 2011.

Also tests to detect Synthetics became available Jan 24, 2011. Auburn began testing for it Jan 27, 2011.

Since it became a banned substance under the drug testing policy, only three student-athletes have tested positive for synthetic marijuana out of more than 2,500 tests administered.

Synthetic marijuana became ILLEGAL in Alabama July 1, 2010, before the 2010 football season.
quote:

On April 22, 2010, the Alabama Legislature passed HB697, making it illegal to possess chemical compounds, HU-210, JWH-018, JWH-073 and salvia divinorum or salvinorum A. Former state Rep. James Gordon was among the sponsors of the bill, which became effective which became effective July 1, 2010.

Gas stations were selling that stuff right next to the No-Dos & Swisser Sweets by the cash registers here in the state capital at that time.

The quote is true, but not everything quoted is completely true. There were tests for "Spice" prior to when these events occurred. Auburn turned to its testing lab, which did not have a test yet, but began trying develop one. Unfortunately, the lab was too stuck on making money to simply tell Auburn officials that someone else had a test that they could use.

Uhhh, no.

"Despite the coach's lecture, Petrone, the sports medicine director, admitted to The Mag this March that he never went to a single student-athlete in search of information and none came to him. Nor was he aware that Redwood Toxicology Laboratory, a drug-testing lab in Santa Rosa, Calif., had widely announced in July 2010, a month before he posted the article on every locker, that it had the first urine test to detect JWH-018."

Odd that Bama was one of the first to test and that was in the fall of 2010 before you say tests were available.

Yet that is the article that WDE24 linked to defend Auburn. So, it's correct if linked to defend Auburn, but not correct if it doesn't.

We get it, Phishy. We all know about those five stages of grief. You guys can't seem to get past step one to save your lives, though.

What we don't get is why this institution that claims to be all about "family" seems to trip all over itself to defend not telling parents that their children were hooked on this garbage.

I'm not mad, just wondering why all the dates are screwed up.

Why some articles say law was passed in 2010 to make this synthetic shite illegal and some say 2011. Dates are not matching up.
