Actually, I did learn something new from the ESPN article that I never knew before...there actually are trailer parks in Auburn.

Oh we're just posting throw away post...got it.

Have you read what the parents have said? Because you said parents, plural. Also I can see why you make such a good bama fan, you're not shy of embellishment.

Serious question - how many of these do you suppose were 19 or over? While momma and daddy (and I'll be no different) still consider them their babies, in the eyes of the law they're adults.

It is - legally at least - none of their parent's business unless the player authorizes the release of that information.

Haven't read thread. Has anyone linked this article from the NCAA, dated December 13, 2010?

quote:

The Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports has declined to recommend an extension of an exemption for the use of medicinal marijuana and has affirmed the full-season penalty for a positive marijuana test, pending further research. The current policy requires that the student-athlete sit out one full season of participation and lose a year of eligibility. At its recent annual meeting, the group also added so-called “synthetic marijuana” drugs - including K2, Spice Gold, and other herbal incense products - to the banned-substances list. These drugs mimic tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, which gives marijuana its potency.

Doubt it makes any difference, though. It would be hard to enforce.

Yeah... I have seen different stances on it, and at best, it's a grey area. Unless more info comes out, it's just more info about the program that makes it look bad but that's about it.

And honestly, everyone already knew things were out of control down there, and I'm not saying that as a flame. It's not rocket science to assume that if people are talking about a Spice epidemic all over college football and if Chizik was lenient, it was going to be something they used.

Truth. Spice has been all over most major campuses. The worst part of this article is it paints it as an auburn problem.

Eh they did the same thing with oregon and good old fashion marijuana last year. College kids being college kids painted as an epidemic. It's just our turn in the barrel...again.*

*not denying players used it...just not caring if they did because it's not something we'll get in hot water outside of the court of public opinion over.

I think most people are at the point where they just say, "we get it. Things were bad at Auburn". At this point, there is a new coach, and even though he was there at the time, he has a cleanish slate and can use the time to prove that things under his watch won't be like that.

When I think back to the early 2000's at Alabama, I just think it's one huge clusterfrick. Programs can recover from dark times.

Well at this point too peopel are going to point the finger at the AD even if malzhan wasn't there and it was a ture clean slate.

If I heard storys about arky state kids running wild i'd be worried that it's the new guard same as the old guard coming into auburn but at this point i'm content saying we got rid fo the bad apples...minus jacobs but he's a bad apple for many reasons.

Bella, you left out an important part:

quote:

At its recent annual meeting, the group also added so-called “synthetic marijuana” drugs - including K2, Spice Gold, and other herbal incense products - to the banned-substances list. These drugs mimic tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, which gives marijuana its potency.

The committee also clarified the existing ban for hCG to apply for men only since it is not performance-enhancing in women. Those changes to the list of NCAA-banned drug classes are scheduled to go into effect in August 2011, which will allow time to educate the membership.

The NCAA's ban didn't go in effect until August 2011 so that schools would have time to prepare and educate the student athletes. The decision to ban it occurred in December 2010.

Why some articles say law was passed in 2010 to make this synthetic shite illegal and some say 2011. Dates are not matching up.

For some reason, the initial law (2010) was deemed insufficient as passed. Public Health had to add the compounds to the schedule of controlled substances (2011) before law enforcement could begin cracking down on it.

I just skimmed an NBC article and then found the source. I have actual real life obligations that are keeping me from directing full attention to message board fodder and research.

You aren't kidding. The Dubose era in particular should give any Alabama fan old enough to remember it the proper perspective about Auburn's problems during the Chizik era.

The only differences are they got a crystal football and we didn't face the internet/media saturation that exists today.
