While I somewhat agree, this is not a new case, it is restitution for the crime and part of the punishment. As well as status quo for a lot of crimes. Just because they are seeking the amount doesn't mean they think it is repayable. Just a means of further punishment, that is reasonable for the crime.
For example, what's the point of convicting someone to 500 years of prison?

We don't need anymore people doing that. There are too many doing it now.

so becoming a cult hero to a large percentage of a fanbase and doing a little time in jail for causing nearly a million dollars in damage is paying for his crime?

Meh. Like it's always said, the state of Alabama is 70% crimson tide...y'all foot the majority of the bill.

This is not a crime.

The JUDGE thought so.

So you don't believe in restitution? I hope you are never the victim of a crime.

I don't think its BAMA or Auburn fans necessarily, or exclusively FWIW IMO.

I hope you aren't either.

My point is they are going to spend more money on this than they will ever get out of him. I am not flaming yall or taking up for him.

Agreed, but what's the difference between 100k and 1 million to him? Nothing, just like a 500 year prison sentence. As I alluded to, it's all apart of the process, this is the restitution portion. Just status quo as far as the work.

Your quoting in this thread and history suggest otherwise fwiw.

This is the point I can't understand. So many crimson tide fans are quick to say Harvey and the tea bagger don't represent us, but will argue incessantly about how unfairly the two are being prosecuted. If an AU fan or anyone else I know for that matter does something so stupid, it'll be a cold day in hell when I say "he doesn't represent me but you're being too hard on him".

I think it is a little more like going back and sentencing a guy to 200 more years of prison who already has 500. He deserves to be punished to the fullest extent of the law but he won't be able to pay and if it was my decision I wouldn't waste the time and resources. Maybe I don't understand the legal system that in depth so perhaps this is a quick process, I never claimed to be a lawyer.
I just think at this point it would be best for both universities for everyone to move on. And to whoever said he had a cult following from the majority of the fans, you are an idiot if you actually believe that.

Many of them use it to get a rise or flame out of us, some actually believe it and are blinded by the crimson glasses. They think this as out of the ordinary as far as persecution, but its status quo.

I notice that too. The story would die on these boards if people didn't subtly cry foul at him getting his

Has nothing to do with what we are discussing tonight.

My quoting in this thread hasn't been flaming or defending him. I just think its going to cost a lot with little to no return.. It doesn't cost more money to add 400 more years onto a 100 year sentence, but lawyers and court processes cost money.

This isn't going back, it's the restitution portion.

Which is status quo for many crimes. Do you think Bernie madoff is going to be able to repay the billions from prison while making license plates? No, but they need to attach a value, which they have done. And they have added the monetary punishment portion according to the law. Doesn't mean that is what the judgement will be either. But saying there is extra work involved is laughable, as its apart of the process.

Agreed, but this not the university, this is the criminal justice system. Obviously it's going to be in the media until its resolved to its entirety.

Everything in every thread gets blown out of proportion by some of the idiots from each fanbase. I do feel if thebagger spends more than a few months of his 2 year term in jail that it was probably a little too harsh. And the thread title says Auburn AD suing so to me that sounds like a whole separate case and work which I don't think is worth pursuing because Updyke can't pay anything really. If it is a simple thing and doesn't require a lot of time and money then by all means Updyke deserves whatever comes from this (I do feel sorry for him because how sad his life is and was)

As I said I was basing my comments off of thread title which makes it seems like AD is bringing a civil suit.
