Such horrible news on this Sunday morning. Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends, and to Auburn fans.

I used to hate working in Tuskegee. I worked at the Thomas Reed Ambulatory Center for a while. I hated going through the town. Like you said, though, the University itself was really nice.

Sorry to point out facts, but Tuskegee has one of the worst crime rates in the state. Its the kind of place you don't drive thru at night.
Tuskegee, Alabama is not this bad...at all. I can take you to some places you can't drive thru at night...
Hell... Mountain Brook, Alabama isn't safe to drive thru at night for ME.

We lived in a house on the edge of the National Forest close to the Y-Grocery (which illegally sold fricking forties.)
I graduated Auburn in 95 and they were selling forties there then.

Sorry man. Tuskegee is a shite hole, and statistically has one of the highest crime rates in the state. Which is kind of odd, because I never saw the cops do shite when I lived around there.
Stats!

So how do you just "knock it down?" The owner isn't going to take a multi-million dollar loss. Who would pay the owner the value of the property? It does have to be "cleaned up" and managed better.

Very sad news to wake up to. Terrible. Prayers to his family and teammates

Yes it is. It was bad when I was a student at AU in the mid 90's and its worse now.
I have clients who graduated from Tuskegee (great couple) who always talk about how terrible it has gotten there, and how they would never let their kids go to Tuskegee because its gotten so bad in the surrounding area.

Wow. I have a 1:82 chance of being a victim of a violent crime there.
Scary.

Safer than only 2% of US cities? Man that is terrible. Even Columbus GA is better than that

I'm sure Tuskegee may be a little rougher than Vestavia, but in the grand view of the world...
It's not in the top 400.

Worldwide? Probably right.
But it is in the Top 360 most dangerous places to live in America -- statistically speaking.
