What is Section 8? I've never heard of it.

First off T&P for his family and the Auburn family. No one should ever have to bury a young man. And certainly not like this.

I can't speak for UK outside of the Wildcat Den for basketball, but I know at UofL and even Bellarmine (D-2) here if you're an underclassmen you have to live at specific dorms on campus with majority athletes. Is this the complex for them? Or does Auburn not do that?

Public housing. People on welfare.

We have brand new dorms for the athletes that they're required to live in until they're seniors. That might even change in light of this.

It was most likely a graduation party of some kind that went south.

Government subsidized housing. Basically the government makes up the difference between what a tenant can pay and the market rent thus allowing low-income people to live in better apartments than they could typically afford.

That's terrible how bad the place has gotten. I took a tour of those apartments a few years ago and they seemed nice.

AU just built a nice new football dorm on campus, that all but some seniors are required to live in.

The issue with The Exchange/University Heights/Tiger Lodge (they've changed the name a thousand times), as has been mentioned, is that it's right off of Highway 29 that runs between Auburn and Tuskegee. Tuskegee's campus is nice, all things considered, but the rest of the city is 100% ghetto. Which has led to a number of Tuskegee students living in Auburn and commuting.

So you wind up with a lot of "low income" commuter students in the area. And a lot of times there will be these huge parties at these apartment complexes (though Tiger Lodge is the only one I've heard about specifically), that also bring in thugs from Columbus and Montgomery - so most of the people at these parties aren't from/attending Auburn to begin with.

It's a sticky situation that I'm not sure how you clean up.

Gotcha. I was under the impression he was living there.

But yeah, if I'm Malzahn I'm getting my players the hell away from that complex in any shape or form at this point. Once is an anomaly, twice isn't. So sad.

TTs half of that Tuskegee crowd doesn't even live there. They get there around noon to play basketball and they stay out there playing/betting on basketball and dealing drugs until like 3 in the morning.

I stayed right next to the pool and basketball court one summer. Kept me up all the time.

I'll go ahead and tell you guys right now that Garden District is going to go the way of Tiger Lodge as well. Turning into it's own little mini ghetto.

I can attest to this. I live right next door and while I haven't had any problems, our neighbors haven't been as lucky.

Tuskegee the school is a good school. Tuskegee the town is like a bad inner-city neighborhood dropped in the middle of a cow pasture

Unfortunately, that is a correct analysis. I do business in Macon County, and excluding the college, it's a pretty rough location for East Alabama.

Sorry to point out facts, but Tuskegee has one of the worst crime rates in the state. Its the kind of place you don't drive thru at night. Sad, because historically Tuskegee has been a nice university.
Considering there is not much there, much of that element spills over into Auburn/Opelika. Montgomery is terrible and has been for years.

Call it racist or whatever, but facts are facts.

My brother and I used to live in Tuskegee, well within the city limits. We lived in a house on the edge of the National Forest close to the Y-Grocery (which illegally sold fricking forties.) We would drive to Auburn to shop rather than go anywhere near Tuskegee after the first few times -- and the tire iron beating incident.

Those apartment complexes started accepting Section 8 housing when they couldn't meet quota for renters. COmbine that with being somewhat close to Tuskegee and you start getting a ton of trash out there.

i lived across the street at university village for 2 years. looking at both apartments you would think nothing like this would happen there. My first year living there was alright but my second year the place was really sketchy. I hated it. I guess it was the section 8 thing, im not sure who all lived in the apartment above me but i always saw at least 3 women and 7 children come out. I swear they played basketball up there all the time. I didnt study much but it was impossible as a student to live there. The guys across from me were evicted for not paying rent. They were on the tuskegee basketball team. im all for bulldozing both apartment complexes

this sucks thoughts and prayers to the family

What I've gotten from reading several things on twitter, etc.

He was at a party for finals being over and he was shot 8 times, but I have no idea the reason at this point. Scary because it's not like that's a bad area of town or anything.

Same apartment complex I think that two other AU players were killed at a couple years ago. That place should be condemned and knocked down.
