We played Georgia Tech in Auburn for the first time in 1896. Here's a funny story about it ranked as one of the greatest pranks in college football:

You DO know that LSU played at Auburn in 1903 and in 1908, right?

I'll give you 1908 if you give me 1903, 1910, & 1983.

Ole Miss and MSU didn't play in Jackson bc teams wouldn't travel to them

Just like Arkansas didn't play in Little Rock for that reason

The best stadiums in the state were in Birmingham and Jackson.

I still very much remember going to the crappy games at Bryant Denny being a little band box as a 3-4 year old as they were building the first deck.

The funny part is his manifesto goes out the window considering no one went to Tuscaloosa as well

He's an idiot.

Tuscaloosa was a bit easier to access back then, but the stadium was small, relative to Legion Field. Alabama made more money playing big games in Birmingham, even decades after the interstates were completed.

After BDS expanded to 70k, Legion Field even added a deck and expanded capacity to 83,000 to keep them from moving those games.

It was small by today's standards, but at 70k (before the first deck took it to 84k), it was still in the ten or twelve largest on-campus stadiums at the time.

Band box is a bit of a stretch.

It was 60,210 until 1987 with only a lower bowl. That was the time period I was talking about. The first deck brought it to 70K (1988) and the 2nd deck in 1998 (along with the first jumbotron) brought it to 84K.

Because it was a small shitty field in the middle of no where?

Transportation back then was not as easy as it is these days.

As other have pointed out, this wasn't just an Auburn thing, lots of schools played in larger nearby city due to better stadiums or easier transportation.

When did Auburn and Alabama stop playing at Legion all together? Was it the '98 addition for Bama?

Auburn was not an easy place to get to back then. In the 60's, even 280 was a winding little highway all the way from Birmingham. Imagine how hard it was on UT to travel by bus from Knoxville. They played them in Birmingham until 1980 or so.

That is a BS answer. AU played UGA in Columbus, which was 45 min away from AU. The reason was the SEC allow the other teams to dictate terms of where games were played. UT, GT and UGA did not want AU to have any home field advantage, and could get away with it.

The last Alabama-Auburn game at Legion Field was 1998.

That's later than I thought. I guess, I just assumed it was only random other games played there then. Similar to Arky and Little Rock.

How do you explain pre-SEC? And you're basically saying AU is our little brother if true.

We played our home game vs Auburn and Tennessee at Legion Field through 1998 (played Tennessee in Tuscaloosa in 1999 and Auburn in Tuscaloosa in 2000). We kept playing 1 or 2 games a year there until 2004 I think.

It is now. It sure as hell wasn't 75 years ago. Little of Lee County was even paved then.

Ah yes, poor, poor AU always getting picked on.

Christ, you people whine a lot.
