They have service dogs for veterans with PTSD. My brother in law who is a retired Marine is looking into getting one. They're supposed to make easier for the veterans to cope with their PTSD in public by calming them down. It's also supposed to be therapeutic and make it easier for them to talk to people because want to come up and pet your dog. Clearly the service dog wasn't working for this woman.

ETA:

They're classified as "service dogs" so you can take them into public, which is where people with PTSD struggle, but the only "service" they provide is therapy.

Come on now guys. Many details remain. Not like they hurt anyone. They were kids being immature.

Well Auburn isn't in Califonia, thank God. And I don't think whistling or making kissy noises at a service dog constitutes harassment or obstruction. The woman in question says herself it happens all the time (it is a dog), she just happened to be in a bitchy mood right then and told them to stop.

Doesn't matter how it's characterized in this thread. Matters how the state laws read.

quote:

Just over twenty states have laws that prohibit interference with a service animal. Nebraska’s law provides a typical criminal interference statute:

2) A person commits the offense of interference with a service dog when he or she (a) intentionally impedes, interferes, or threatens to impede or interfere or (b) attempts to intentionally impede, interfere, or threaten to impede or interfere with a dog that he or she knows or has reason to believe is a dog guide for a blind or visually impaired person, a hearing aid dog for a deaf or hearing-impaired person, or a service dog for a physically limited person.

A) they weren't intentionally trying to interfere with the dogs service

B) it's not a guide dog, a hearing aid dog, and the woman isn't physically impaired (at least that's not why she claims to have a service dog)

C) once again, the service that dogs provide veterans with PTSD is therapeutic and is to help them better interact with the public and deal with social situations, so if anybody was interfering with the dogs service in this situation it was the woman

I have never heard of that and I did one deployment to Afghanistan myself. I never claimed PTSD either so I wouldn't know. If she freaked out this much over a couple kids, she needs to see the VA again because having a dog isn't working.

The whole point of service dogs for veterans of PTSD is therapy, part of which is helping them interact with people because people by nature want to interact with the dog. So really, it should be okay to engage lightly with this particular service dog. It's not like this was a guide dog helping a blind or deaf person.

Man this spin from the Aubies to protect their low life thug players who harass disabled vets is pretty sickening and surprising, even for them.

I knew a guy with one in Hawaii. They ended up kicking him out of the barracks because it's technically not a service dog. They were referred to as therapy dogs and were not allowed to wear the "service dog" markings and didn't have the same rules. Most likely, this girls was the same (not wearing official markings). They shouldn't have called her a bitch, but she and her sister are blowing it out of proportion, imo.

Once again, it doesn't matter what people in this thread think, it's how the state laws read.
