I would guess another 8-5 season will have the natives restless. Gus needs to prove he can close a season out strong after their disasters at the end of promising 2014 and 2016 seasons

What would an 8-5 season mean for Smart ? He can not live off is DC years, at least with Gus, he did play in the Sugar Bowl last year.

I think an 8-5 for any of 5 SEC Coaches would make the natives restless. But I think Gus would be on the bottom of that list.

On a hot seat scale from Sumlin to Bert, he is Mark Stoops.

It would be a colossal failure and it would mean he really has to show something in 2018, but two years is too soon to fire a guy unless there is a 3-9 type of implosion.

Barring a complete disaster Bert is safe with his big buyout but a 6 or 7 win campaign means he has to win and win big in 2018.

The problem for Smart was he didn't replace a HC who had the program in the dumpster.

It wasn't a dumpster fire, but it was clear Richt would never get closer than he did in 2012. He had plateaued and everyone knew it.

Depends on if he had escaped the trap of outthinking himself to the point of a full-back twirl-action dive play is a good idea.

If AU loses a couple of games early, maybe looking not so good, and he starts calling plays on offense all bets are off.

But he wouldn't do that.

If I were an Auburn fan, I would say they should fire Malzahn for anything less than 9-4 this year. Maybe try to get Tuberville back.

There would be a mob headed straight to Jay Jacobs office if Malzahn started calling plays in the midst of a two game losing streak.

When your second team D is as good as most of the SEC's starting Ds and you have Cam 2.0 coming in at QB, anything less than an SEC Championship and playoff finals appearance should warrant reclaiming the keys for the Gus Bus.

I don't expect them to defeat LSU Georgia Alabama or Clemson. So I'd expect them at 8-4. If Auburn isn't happy with that(which another team could beat them like A&M) then he's gone.

Fans will believe it should be if he goes 8-5. I suspect it will be hot if that record includes loses to bama and uga. I still don't believe they will fire him for 8-5 though.

If he does go 8-5 he got damn sure better beat Georgia. The Atlanta Auburn family is tired of losing to those leg-humping fricks especially when we've had a better team in a few of those games over the last decade.

After being around a lot of Auburn fans during the Sugar Bowl, I'd say it is plenty hot.
