Why is Gus already in that tier?

Guessing because he was an elite OC and has had tons of early success as a HC.

Moreover, like Spurrier, he does more with less. I'd certainly put him with Miles and even Saban for pure coaching. Whether he can put together the programs that Saban and Miles have is a different question.

That's why these threads go 13 pages. People use different metrics to measure coaches. There are valid arguments to having Gus at 3 alone. There are also valid arguments putting him 5th. To each their own

Spin would be comparing unequal parts. Facts are the team John L. Inherited had zero defense, an OL that averaged 3 stars on Rivals, and a team of kids that had given up. OM had a team of 4 and 5 star kids and 3 rb's. That's not spin. Those are facts. Don't be a Bitch when you get called out for being a lame arse flamer. Our team will suck again this year. And it will again the year after that. But, we'll win as many SEC titles as OM the next 10 years. So, neither of us really have anything to brag about.

Yeah, he did. And that's all he gets credit for as a head coach. We all know Chizik was the mastermind anyway..

I think you have to give Freeze the same amount of time before you can make an accurate assessment when comparing the two.

I figured that was a joke. Caught me off guard a bit, I had to double take.

Do they do this based on coaching or recruiting?

As for coaching we do not know, but the cupboard was not in good shape with the departure of Franklin. It should be an NCAA rule that you can not flip recruits if you take a new job. Kids could reopen but just not to the new school.

Get Sabans ***** out of y'all mouths. It's very weird how much y'all worship this human being. Especially on a 2 game losing streak and yet another non west division title

This is how I feel about it...

1. Saban, no explanation needed

2. Miles, PROS: continued success, BCSNC CONS: Does "Les" with more. Based on talent, should have as many rings as Saban.

3. Malzahn, PROS: Mastermind OC behind 2010 BCSNC and taking AU from bottom of the league to SEC Champs and BCSNCG in 1 season as HC. CONS: Will he sustain the success? Only question.

4. Spurrier, PROS: Changed the SEC in the 90s, juggernaut Florida teams, has built USCe into a perrenial top 10 team. CONS: No BCSCG appearrances or SEC championship and only 1 SECCG in 9 seasons at USCe...lives a lot off past glory.

5. Richt, PROS: Has won for a long time, 2 SEC championships, good recruiter, stable program. CONS: ZERO BCSCG appearrances, last won SEC in 2005 and has lost the game more than he's won. Loses a lot of OOC/bowl games. In the same time he's been at UGa(2001), biggest rivals (Auburn and Florida) have won 5 SECCGs and 3 BCSCGs, all while replacing 2 coaches each.

F the rest of them...

Spurrier gets too much credit for his Florida days when it comes to being the coach at USCe. Is he a good coach? Of course he is but come the frick on.

The 3 coaches ahead of Spurrier on your list are all coaches at programs that have won National Championships before their arrival, and are historically successful programs that are regularly good at recruiting and are expected to win.

South Carolina has been a perennial doormat with zero history and virtually no success to claim for almost all of its existence. Just 14 years ago we went 0-11 for frick's sake.

We've also won 33 games in the past 3 seasons. This is the product of not only good coaching on the field, but also building the foundation for a football program that can continuously compete in ways that it never had before.

People can say, "Well, he hasn't won shite since he's been there," and they're right. But most of those people never lived to see their program be as shitty as ours for so long, nor can they appreciate what it means to win like we have recently. This is all Spurrier's doing. He's clearly the second best coach in the SEC right now.

And while Spurrier is still very good, he's not the same coach he was in Gainesville. Dude just got old. That being said, I could make an argument either way for Gus/Spurrier, which is why I tiered them.

No, he left Florida.
