Knoxville is terrible. The campus architecture looks like it came from Stalin's playbook. Laramie, Wyoming is a hole in the wall with suicide prevention and alcoholism billboards all over town. And Seattle doesn't even qualify.

Without the University of Texas and the higher thought it brings Austin the city would not be the same The culture stems from the fact that there is a huge university there. More importantly a huge university which is considered a Public Ivy Without UT you do not have much in Austin

Are we talking about a history lesson of Austin's development or the reality of Austin now? Those are two different discussions. In terms of history, yeah, absolutely you are correct. But in terms of the character of the city as it presently exists, which is the subject of the thread, no, it does not have the size, character, or economy of a college town. Austin is a medium-to-large major city with a diversified economy and a metro population over 1,000,000 people. You can, and most people do, live here without having anything to do with UT and caring about it not one iota. That's not the case in a real college town. I don't think you really understand what the term "college town" means in common usage. College towns are little burgs utterly dependent and totally focused on the university.

Been to 1,3,6,9,10,12,17 and 18 and I think this is a pretty strong list.

Madison must be pretty awesome to be up there with Athens and Austin because those are two of my favorite places in the country.

Wish COC had a big football team because Charleston, SC could dominate some of these lists!

Columbia is no more dangerous than any other city in America. Sorry there isn't shite to do in Clemson so nobody goes outside their homes.

There's like one bar, of course it's less dangerous.

That's legit top 5.

(And for those complaining about "college town" like Seattle - they mean college gameday atmosphere at the event...# of cool bars, experience of tailgating, can you walk to the stadium from the bars, etc.)

That's what they mean by college town. It's really a list celebrating gameday experience.

there isn't just one bar though, and CU has as many bars as USC near campus, as far as ones most non-seedy people would want to go to.

you act like downtown columbia is washington dc or something. lol so much to do. there would be nothing going on there if not for the university

CU has lakes, near mountains, a campus golf course (USC doesn't have this), a nice recreational center, athletic fields, etc. if a student can't find anything to do on a campus with 20,000 young people, he or she probably doens't have any friends.

Are you dumb

How is me saying it's not any more dangerous than any other city equal me saying Columbia is fricking DC? You are the most retarded person I've ever had the privilege of talking to. Please, never change.

Btw if you're really arguing there's more to do in Clemson than Columbia, then you should go play in traffic upside down during a thunderstorm.

who do you do in Columbia that is so fun. you don' strike me as a person who has a lot of fun

i am not anti-colu or usc. u are the one who keeps saying there is nothing to do in CU. can't figure out what a student can't do in CU that he could at USC.

UK has a lot of nice new buildings and spots on campus and then some old construction that needs to get completely redone IMO. UK is pretty spread out, but the thing I think that needs to most attention is the slum lord student housing off Waller. That shite has been an eyesore my entire life.

Exactly. Boulder is the best college town in the US. Its insulated. Its beautiful. Its got a really cool downtown scene

And Knoxville's called the Boulder of the South. I think a lot of people haven't been to Knoxville in a while. It was real shitty but downtown has been completely turned around and it's insane the number of new breweries that have popped up.

one of my issues with Kentucky is the color blue, and they go all in with on the stadium.

clemson doesn't have a lot of orange in the stadium, they most just leave that for the uniforms which is a good thing lol

Wow...Clemson is filled with a lot of shitty brickwork and racists

Is the entire campus filled with grafitti?
Wow

i have to visit it again given it has been ranked no. 1 by Athlon. need to see what all the fuss is

it is too far off the interstate so it probably won't happen. i like how clemson is a good distance from interstate but not too far like uga
