there would be virtually nothing downtown cola without USC.
it would be like Montgomery Al which has few restaurants.
cola has tons of local places, u just aren't famliar with it. it does have chain restaurants too, same ones found in Athens as well like 5 guys, mellow mushroom, it is all good.
as far as urban feel there is no difference b/t athens and Cola in my view. Cola does have a few more vertical office spaces.
COla has one o the best zoos int he country across the river, and you can float down the Saluda river. beach and charleston are 2 hours away.
i do a better job selling USC and Cola than my nemesis CNB aka 'Ugly Mug'. lol

Not close to liberal but you do realize art and culture are not exclusive to the left?
lol i don' tthink asheville has any more art and culture than other cities especially ones bigger than it like Greenville. the Peace Center in Greenville is a top shelf venue and ahtestically pleasing to the eye. and there are nice museuems there.
if you are into drugs and want a drug culture town then Aville is the place to be.

The shovel, put it down. The hole is deep enough.

nah u are just an assville fan boy. i see this a lot b/c Greenville and assville get compared a lot do to proximity.
if assville wasn't up in the mountains, nobody would care about it, but Greenville is as close to the mountains as assville, many people don't realize this.
gville also has a lot more jobs, it is hard to find work in assville outside of healthcare and tourism, waitress type jobs. wow

I don't know how anybody who has traveled outside can disagree with the Top 5.

Okay, BASF and Southeastern Container to name two but tourism leads the way. Greenville strikes out there.

i disagree with the top 5.
for me, cold weather eliminates a town from being a top college town. take madison, ann arbor etc off list completely.
athens is a decent colelge town but it isn't better than most others, and the location sucks unless you are from Atlanta or Augusta. it is like 40 minutes off the interstate and not that close to the ocean or mountains.

It's personal preference, those writers preferred those locations, others don't.

Athens is about an hour from the North Georgia mountains... Which is less a commute than Columbia is to the Upstate mountains AND the low country beaches.
Wow.
Wow.

lol at n. georgia mountains. people go there?
forgot to mention Columbia has a nice lake nearby, actually two. can't understand why my USC enemies on here get mad when i bring up the lakes at CU b/c they can claim lakes too. lol

Beautiful area, as I said earlier, get out more.

... Yes? The economy of NGA is focused around tourism.

i probably know more about the southeast than you. i get the feeling you are from up north if you are fanboying asheville
athens would be cooler if it was located where the Uni of North Georgia is, the first or 2nd gold rush town in the country, n ear those mountains. wow

ok generally in south, the NC mountains are seen as the preferable ones due to higher peaks
that is why ppl fanboy ashevill, it is the largest city near those peaks

Nobody would disagree with you because mountains; but Athens isn't and quite frankly doesn't need those mountains to be arguably the best college town.

Mobile, Al. Yankee capital of the world I guess.

Who said North Georgia had more tourism than Western Carolina? I certainly didn't... But NGA tourism is alive and well.

you never really prove how it is the best tho.
number of bars is kind of irrelvant unless undergrad students are alochoicis and also willing to break the law. at clemson parties on and off campus were the draw b/c you could meet more girls and hang out with more people, plus the bars allowed smoking which is annoying for a lot of non smokers
