If only they could play BAMA. I mean, if BAMA could play & beat BAMA, then BAMA would deserve the #1 ranking. No question.

It would put this argument to rest imho.

This and they lead the strongest conference in college football; the conference that has dominated the BCS Championship in large part due to Alabama. Any other questions?

With a defense that shitty? Hell no. They allow more points per game than Texas A&M. THAT is definitely saying something.

Only because UGA has played 3 of the best offenses in CFB ( lsu , Mizz, and Clemson) and A&M hasn't play any.

Bama has 3 of the 7 bcs titles in row but had bama not won one in 2011 lsu would have. If bama hadn't won one in 2009 UF probably would've won the BCSCG. So it's not just bama being dominant.

They also allowed the conference's most anemic offense (Florida) to score 20 points on them in a game in which the Gators nearly came back and won. They also allowed Vanderbilt of all teams to score 31 points on them. Before the Florida game, the team with the lowest point total against that defense was North Texas - and they still managed to score 21 points.

That is a shitty, shitty defense.

You do realize that having an offense unable to stay on the field, due to injuries , can greatly affect the defense, right? While UGA wasn't a great defense prior to the offensive injuries , losing those great skill positions didn't help.

So why is Bama ranked #1?

Because Alabama has tradition, is the 3 Time BCS Champion and is America's team.

They were up 20-3 at halftime. They were running all over the Gators' defense in the first half.

You obviously can't read if you think this is a schedule thread.

Also for the people who say well because they were number 1 last year: the Ravens won the super bowl last year by your logic that means they are the best team in football right now.

It doesn't matter that they have not lost a game. Baylor hasn't either so they should be number 1 by that logic. No sensibility whatsoever around here. Go figure.

If Bama were number 2 I wouldn't be mad. If they got left out even after being undefeated, then I would be mad. Alabama is the reigning heavyweight champion. If another team wants the belt (and the reigning champion hasn't lost), you have to let them play for the belt.

No way. What if bama play a top 5 SOS but ohio state got into the BCSCG with a SOS in 80's just because LAST YEAR( a totally different team) they won the national title. Just because a team wins the BCSCG doesn't automatically qualify them for a spot in the next BCSCG. As far as having to beat the champ for the title, THIS YEAR'S bama team hasn't won anything. So to assume that this bama team is as good is crazy.

But the main point you're missing is that Bama's schedule isn't shitty this year. Not by a longshot.

There is 2 halves. The 2nd half of games is when Injuries( depleted roster) starts to show. The second half of sec games usually has far more subbing than the first.

It does if they are 13-0 and the two-time defending national champion. If you are a voter in the AP or the Coaches Poll you let them try for history. Plain and simple.

No, it still doesn't automatically qualify them, but it helps with the human polls.

At any rate, if Bama wins out this year, they'll have earned their spot based on their body of work this season.

You're right. Baylor should be number one and we should be behind Fresno State.
