This is exactly why I've said little on this matter. I've been on the fence the entire time, but you AU fans going full retard make that hard.

As a Bama fan, really you should just be happy that our coach is talked about year round. We are the envy of everyone and it shows when things like this happen. Bielema has been more vocal about this issue but all anyone wants to talk about it Saban. You should be happy our coach is able to garner so much attention even after a season where we didn't quite meet expectations.

I'm against the rule, but I am amused at how often it gets brought up here.

surprisingly enough, more bama fans seem level headed about this whole ordeal than some.... most, if not all, of the arky fans are taking the "want to see the world burn" approach... after the last two years, it's all they have, I guess.

And I think this may be a large part of the problem. Saban believes this to be the case as well.

No, he just doesnt give a frick what anyone thinks of him.

OP could use the similar thick skin.

That game was lost on our inability to make key plays on offense when we needed them.

We even made some key plays, but penalties brought them back.

I just don't see the big deal. Every coach in America is trying to gain a competitive advantage. Saban had the opportunity to do that through a rule change, and it's going to fail. He's not the first coach to try it, and he won't be the last. Yawn. Let's move on.

This could go on the Bama board, but I'll post it here to gather opinions of others. How can other Alabama fans defend this? We have a coach making $7 million a year and he can't figure out how to stop his biggest rival? He can't change his style or adapt? I understand safety, I get it, but even as an Alabama fan I have to say it's a bullshite out and excuse to try and slow down that which you can't stop on your own. ETA: certainly I'm not the only Alabama fan to feel this way.

Im not embarrassed but I think Saban is a little misguided.

vs Auburn, we win the game if we make 1 or 2 of our FG's and this would all be a moot point. The HUNH offense was effective vs Bama but the special teams lost that game, not the defense. Saban neds to focus more on getting his FG kickers better rather than shaking the tree on the HUNH front

They shouldn't be mad at Saban for accepting an invitation

Ummm, where do you guys come up with this?

He didnt get an invite, he asked to speak to the rules committee, which they said is out of the ordinary, but has happened in the past. They said most coached just send a letter if they have something to say.

so he's not really "pushing" for anything.

I think most reasonable Bama fans, if the discussion was limited simply to the rule itself, would probably be against it. However, the hysteria over it and the "Saban scared" story line kind of forces Bama to defend their coach and take a position regarding the rule that they don't really believe.

Also, due to the rivalry with Auburn, it is easy bait to troll with on here for those that get joy out of trolling 100% of the time.

He was a proponent of this after we beat our rivals 42-14, and 49-0 too. If he wants to support giving the defense an advantage in offensively advantageous game, then that is his perogative.

I couldnt care less either way, but all of this "Saban is a pussy" and "Saban cant stop HUNH" talk is just message board/media shite talk. He has been a proponent of this for a while now, and he knows what he is doing. I doubt he cares what you, or anyone elae thinks about his stance.

So in less words: Deal With It.

No you are not. I feel embarrassed about it too. Either our coach Saban is the best or he isn't. What he is doing here breeds doubt and makes him look weak.

But hey 3/4

I don't think it has a great impact on player safety.

However, I do enjoy defensive games and think this rule would do better to bring the defense and offensive back into more balance after all the targeting rules and such.

So I don't really care the reasoning behind it, I think it would make the game better all around. Too bad it won't get passed.

Serious answers:

How can other Alabama fans defend this?

Just my guess, but I believe most Alabama fans do not agree with the new rule, but many will not admit it. It really makes them look bad when they attempt to defend it.

Edit: And attempt to deflect.

Saban has recruited a certain way (which he does extremely well) and has implemented a philosophy which does not adjust very well to HUNH (just my opinion). I'm speculating here: he's getting pressured by certain people and the 7+ mil salary, albeit great for him financially, is becoming quite a burden to live up to now. He might feel he's walking a razor's edge now.

As someone else sort of said, this new rule proposal plus hiring LANE KIFFIN... a man that leaves chaos and destruction where ever he goes, really seems like gasps of desperation.

It doesn't help matters when you look at newcomer aTm recruiting extremely well since joining the SEC.

He's stopped the HUNH plenty of times before, so I don't get where people get the idea that he can't.
