All of which you could have said about Petrino after his first year.
Do people not remember when he complained about the woman for wearing a Florida hat?

Football IS a business in every sense

hell frank broyles went 4–6 (2–4) in his first year as head coach at Arkansas in 1958

Petrino's record was lousy in Year 1, but we could also see improvement and a plan. His team made progress from game to game, even though the wins weren't happening very frequently.
The comment about the Florida hat was not at all like whining about those mean coaches who won't huddle. It's such a bad look to whine about not being able to stop a fast offense, and compound the bad look by making up a bogus excuse that it is somehow about player safety.
Winning will cure all. I just don't expect this coach to start winning any time soon at Arkansas.

Well, not exactly. Nutt went 8-0 out of the gates his first year. Was a Stoernover away from knocking off the eventual National Champs at their place. Was a 4th and 14 from beating Miss St at Starkville to win the West. Nutt's first year was actually his best.
Unlike Petrino and Bert, he inherited great talent that had been beaten down. He motivated them and they responded.

You don't think going from barely beating Samford and Southern Miss to almost beating Mississippi State and LSU is improvement?

It started last season. He's not as popular in Arkansas as you think. It's not even so much that we were awful last year. A lot of people just don't seem to like him.
How can anyone be happy with how poorly he's recruited?

I see fumbling inside the 10 yard line against MSU and failing to put the game away, and letting LSU drive 99.99999 yards with ease to win the game the same way. I see those two scenarios as the team making the same stupid, boneheaded mistakes as they were making in the first part of the season that allowed Samford and Southern Miss to stay close. I see the fact that MSU and LSU were close, but still losses as validation of the fact that the team did not get better and correct earlier mistakes.
Posted on 7/23/14 at 11:38 am to BenHOGan
They still made mistakes yeah but they didn't make as many of them.
The Collins fumble was a fluke. He hardly fumbled all year. Not much you can do about that.

that describes houston nutt fwiw
also you failed to comment on frank broyles first year record being 4–6 (2–4) for some reason. I wonder why...

exactly. but by all means continue judging bert based on one year with shitty talent

When Golden Corral runs out of food.
Because Bert is fat.

I don't know why recruiting is the area you choose to attack.
After the 3-9 season he finished about par for an Arkansas coach around 28, and is set up for a 2015 class around 15-20 this year
And don't tell me 15-20 will get me 8th in the sec, because it doesn't matter. The difference between an 19th ranked class and 12th ranked class is pretty minuscule and comes down to development

Well A&M hasn't blown us out under Bielema so I would probably be slightly perturbed.

His 2013 is on par with Sumlin's, if you factor in all the players who have been dismissed from A&M.

I think he's a big 10 plant, he has too many ties to the big 10.

Bert did just say that Arkansas doesn't have any national championships, so the hogs should now drop all claims to (fixed to) 1964.
On phone, fat fingers.
