I secured my tickets today. What are your recommendations for lodging and food? What about the best scenic route into town? The wife wants to see the best of the Ozarks. This is my first trip there, so any tips are appreciated.: cheers:

Eta: The reason I asked so early is I want to book a room now and the wife is the planning type.

Stay:
Chancellor Hotel
Hilton Garden Inn
Hilton Homewood Suites
Staybridge Suites
Holiday Inn Express

These are all the best as far as location goes.

Make sure when you're making your way into Fayetteville it will not be at night. That way, your last hour to Fayetteville its through the mountains and you can see the Ozarks on your way up.

Take the pig trail. It's really straight and will cut your time in half.

Pig trail is fun, I haven't driven it in years. That lookout point is pretty cool.

I stayed there last year- it's a nice place right in the middle of things.

Do not take the pig trail or you'll end up in divorce court.

Thanks.. We'll be taking off from classes Friday and driving up. We plan to drive in one way and out the other as to see most of the state.

The Pig Trail (Hwy 71) is scenic, but so is Interstate 49. I'd stick to I-49.

Try to stay at the Chancellor Hotel, which is right off the square a short walk to Dickson Street, our bar district that's really top notch now.

Can't go wrong with any of the restaurants near the square or off Dickson. Hammontree's is a great grilled cheese place (not kidding) off Dickson that is freaking on point.

I have heard very good things about the Chancellor Hotel as well.

I'd cheerfully advise you on where to eat at... but the fact is I cook for myself almost all the time so I very rarely eat out. We do have some great places to eat up here so check out the Arkansas forum. I can say, from first hand experience, that we do have an excellent craft beer scene up here if you enjoy that.

Oh.. yeah... no matter what the locals tell you, Do Not, do not, go visit Bottom's Up. The brewery next to it is great, but I don't think the strip club will be the highlight of your trip up here.

Hope you have a good time

The last time I took it was for the grand opening to BWA, which was before I-49 was built. It was quite scary after dark with all the curves and traffic. However, I actually miss it now.

The chancellor is the way to go if you can get a room. I assume it books out way in advance though.

Grilled cheese and beer? That sounds right up my wife's alley.. Do they have a list of cheeses to choose from?

It appears I'll be booking at Chancellor.

You better book it now. It may already be full. I'd advise you booking whatever place you're staying at ASAP.

It is, the wife is a grad student in natural resource management, and there's a strong possibility we'll end up in the Ozarks post graduation (hiring preference with Fish and WIldlife Services), hence the motivation for the trip right now.

My favorite places to eat in Fayetteville:

Hugos, cool underground spot.
Theos/Bordinos (if you want an upscale night)
Woodstone pizza
Grubbs
Frickin Chicken
Deluxe Burger
Marleys Pizza

Also, when you're drunk on Dickson, check out the food truck court in the middle of Dickson. There are about 5 trucks there with legit food for post bar drunkeness.

Saw arky v aubie in Fayetteville in like '09... Arky corner drilled a WR screen and got the face masks locked. They showed the replay and then a video of a razorback and the place went crazy.

Also, halftime was a guy playing piano.
