People continue to ignore that athletes DO get paid. I personally know a D1 football player and in his scholarship he receives a $1100 stipend every month on top of getting free tuition, unlimited access to their own personal dining hall and access to top of the line facilities. . The only reason any of these guys ever "go hungry" is because they blow their money on stupid shite.

Amen.

He's FOS cause you know like I do he got Pell Grant Money, Off Campus housing money etc... If he had no money it was cause he spent it on something else...

"ALL" of these kids receive on average between $1300 & $1700 a month in Pell Grant, clothing & housing money...

So you are telling me they get specialized training in order to potentially make millions of dollars in the future and they have to "work" for it.

The NFL is part of a free market, but so are a lot of other things. Endorsers, autograph signings, etc.

if They get paid, then they shouldnt get a single perk for free, then watch how broke they are

Problem with paying, it will not fix anything. "Boosters" and bad coaches will still up the ante for premier players. It will just bump the illegal contributions a bit higher.

It's not free if they're giving something in return, dipshit. And what they're getting in return is not nearly proportionate to what some of them are giving their respective programs.

You hate capitalism because you seem to not like free market economies. These players have value, and its not up to you, me, or the NCAA to decide what that is.

Cool. Take away their scholarships and let them negotiate contracts. Schools may not find athletics to be quite to lucrative then. They can drop their football programs and these kids can try their hand at the NFL. # of broke players will skyrocket and many without an education to fall back on. Sounds good.

do you really think 18-22 year olds will be financially responsible with that money?

Dont know, nor do I care. Saying someone would waste the money any way is a terrible reason why someone shouldnt be paid.

So, is he basically saying that UT refused to feed him? Because if that is his excuse I call bull shite.

There are no finer dining facilities and no more food made available to athletes, anywhere in the country, than at SEC programs.

I've recently eaten in the SCAR chow hall and it is like fine dining where you can get just about anything you want off of the line, 24/7 and are even allowed to take meals home if that is your wish and you are within your quota.

This is the truth. Foster is an absolute liar.

Regular students are allowed to eat from the same selection that the athletes get at UA, but the cost is about $18 per meal, iirc. (Dining plan plus an extra $9 for access to the athlete meals)

Nail, hammer, head.

Only solution is to give it a try and make the penalties for violating it afterwards so severe that no one dare do such a thing or risk losing everything.

There is wording that could be added to contracts that would allow such if they wanted it to be so.

Somehow, Foster's comments remind me of when Latrell Sprewell complained about his contract by saying that he need more money to feed his family.
