Saban can threaten college kids, his tactics don't work in the NFL. I don't think Carroll gets enough credit for the defensive system he puts in place. As explosive as USC was, there defense was just as good under Carroll. He's a player's coach, Saban's not.

Anyone convinced Brees would've been the answer for Saban is wrong - Payton's system for Brees is perfect, there is no way Saban would've given Brees the autonomy he has with Payton on offense.

Where are you getting these figures?
I'll admit that the 2003 BCS Title Game was BS, but 2003 USC did not beat LSU on the field, so that shouldn't count as a win and certainly wasn't an appearance. 2004 is a win, but it was vacated. No one knows how far USC would have made it if Reggie Bush was dismissed from the team immediately following his acceptance of impermissible benefits. I only see one national championship win for Carroll, and that's 2004.

I love college football, but a Super Bowl is better than anything that college could possibly do for a coach. You haven't even begun to see the spoogefest that ESPN is about to rain all over Carrol as the greatest coach ever. The titles at USC (however many there were) will just be fodder in propping him up. Footage of him holding the Lombardi Trophy will be burned into Saban's nightmares.

USC's schedules were so weak that they couldn't afford to lose a game, and that's why they disappeared from 2006-2008. USC and Alabama are both historic powers, but Alabama gets the benefit of the doubt partly due to the fact that the SEC is considered to be the strongest conference and was on a dominating run of national championship wins. The PAC 10 during Carroll's tenure has nothing on the SEC during Saban's.

"Destroyed" is taking it too far. Much too far. He has been in 4 national championships, lost one and had to vacate one. So really he won three to Saban's four and their runs or dynasties were pretty similar

3 National Championship wins, 1 NC appearance + 1 Super Bowl win

4 National Championship wins, 3 with one team 1 with the other

Look, you can stop there. Nobody is going to scrutinize Carrol's college record anymore. It's ancient history once you get a Super Bowl ring. How much archive footage do you see of Jimmy Johnson at the U? It's pretty much 90/10% Dallas Cowboys swag to Hurricanes ratio.

No way If he tried an failed that would make him a two time NFL failure

No way he exposes himself to that risk

I will say
Saban> Carroll as NCAA coach but it is clearn

Carroll > Saban as a NFL coach

Why is Saban so hung up on Carrol? This thread has also been beaten into the fricking ground. I understand LSU fans know Saban better than their own dads but I just don't get it...

Saban would leave only if Bama got similar NCAA sanctions as USC did with Carroll.

The year after Saban left, that same Dolphins team went 1-15. Can't remember who the head coach was though..........

Ironically that was Cam Cameron.

Oddly some of the P&G want Cameron to stick around and take over after Les.

He's a tremendous OC.....not an HC.

Also Carroll's first two attempts at head coach with Jets and Patriots were less than successful.

I wouldn't be shocked at all to see Les to the Cowboys one day. Not that it would be a good hire, but its exactly the kind of bad hire that Jerry Jones would make.

He was a TE coach there once and Jerry does like to bring back retreads. I'm surprised that we haven't been treated to Campo II yet...

Do you actually believe that Jones would let Miles in front of a national TV audience representing the Cowboys?

We need to be careful in giving too much credit to Pete Carroll. Let's not forget how mediocre he was in his time with the Patriots.

Let's also not forget who Pete hand-picked as his first 3 QB's in his tenure with Seattle before he stumbled on Russell Wilson in the third round: Charlie Whitehurst, Tavaris Jackson, and Matt Flynn. He went 7-9 in each of two seasons. He An argument could be made if not for finding Wilson right now, Pete could be on the hot seat.

Carroll is finding success as a "players coach." Saban is a self-righteous prick. Really, Saban's coaching approach is doomed to failure in the NFL.
