He is your associate head coach and an agent of Auburn University. Auburn and Bruce Pearl can't play the "we didn't know card".

we can and we will

the questions are a)whether that is true and b) whether it'll help

the answers are a) we don't know and b) that probably depends on the answer to a)

It's a virtual certainty that the USDOJ's going to handle that part for them.

Wouldn't matter, though, right? As it pertains to the rules, the Head Coach is ultimately responsible, no?

That's a whole different level. Isolated incident involving one player and one coach for a few hundred dollars. It was self reported and the money was paid back. NCAA didn't really even get involved.

I think it will.

Depends on the context. Here you allegedly have an assistant coach that went rogue for a couple of months to line his own pockets. If there is no indication that the head coach or anyone else knew or, in the exercise of reasonable care, should have known, what Person was doing, I doubt Pearl is held responsible.

There will still be sanctions, just not anything too major and not anything related specifically to Pearl.

Recruits, no. Players currently on the roster, yes

The timing of this could save AU from potential recruiting violations. Now that Chuck had the pipeline greased, he could easily be telling high school kids to come because he had the hookup.
At least (for AU's sake) kids didn't have a chance to sign under this pretense.
