pay the 18 grand back

I'm sure they've still got that money sitting in a savings account earning interest.

Despite what is said in the article, they were players and not recruits. It is semantics, but for AU and the NCAA, I think it is slightly better as it wasn't done to entice the player to AU. At least not based on the current set of allegations.

Still, AU basketball is fricked for now.

What are some other examples of players taking funds from agents while still in college, and what were the penalties? There is your start. Obviously wins are vacated, players ineligible, coaches lifetime ban...what were the schollies lost?

I think you're right, that's a good place to start. Although I think that kind of money coming from a coach takes things to a different level, IDK.

It may be technically with players, not recruits, but I can see the NCAA thinking if multiple players on the team are getting cash on the side, then it could be viewed as a perk that recruits could know about. Maybe they have to enroll before getting the cash, but it's something that could be known to them. You also may have to look at when Wiley officially became an AU player. I dont know when he signed or enrolled, but I know he didn't start playing until January because he graduated early. In November, when some of this apparently went down, what was his official status?

It's bang bang, but Person didn't get involved until November, looks like Wiley got involved on the basketball team's trip up to NY in December, after he enrolled, but before he started playing.

Player 2 wasn't involved until January.

Don't want an Eric Dickerson situation - driving to SMU in the Trans Am the Aggies bought him.

May have to think of the possibility that the conversation in November enticed him to enroll early and play in January.

Doesn't sound like that, but I assume the taped conversations will eventually come out.

Maybe not. Just thinking of the scenarios from which the NCAA could look at it.

I think it's really important actually.

I think the natural consequences of this (ineligible players gone, players not wanting to come to AU for a while, potential coaching turnover even if Pearl wasn't really aware/involved) are likely to exceed the NCAA consequences.

My sister burnt up her engine one time and it wouldn't go anywhere. I asked her when was the last time she changed her oil? She said she can't remember ever changing it. I said, well there's your problem. She asked me if she put oil in the car would it start working again?

You remind me of my sister...
