This has nothing to do with Bryant. Alabama and Tennessee are rivals. Alabama and auburn are rivals. LSU is a tough game every year, but they are not out rivals.

unfortunately, it seems that there can not be any new modern day rivalries created. it seems to have been something created back in the 50's, 60's, and 70's. our teams have been good the past 8 years and have had major implacations on the nation, but we will never establish a true rivalry. this is just kind of a fad for both teams.

Hard to make this statement when the game doesn't even have a definitive outcome on the SECw this year. Come back and try again when you can beat Ole Miss.

It is usually the best game of the college football season each and every year. It doesn't have to be rooted in some deep weird tradition or lore to be a rivalry. It is a divisional game that brings out the best of both teams and almost always carries post-season implications. Maybe not a historic rivalry, but a great rivalry none-the-less.

How does it feel to know that OM losing another is a foregone conclusion?

Anyways maybe one day you can stretch these 2 victories into sustained 11-win seasons and become an elite program all of a sudden and then our younger fans will start threads about how you're now our biggest rival

call It what you will

LSU circles the Bama game first

we hate Ole Miss but that is more of a 50's thing

Lsu/Auburn - the cigar game - love beating the smart guy with the clip board

Lsu/Bama- big boy football plus Saban

Lsu/Arky - pick-up truck stupid - hog hats really

Lsu/Ole Miss -it's real- corn dog yelling rebs

now they are pushing Lsu/aTm but it means little to
me other than just another SEC game

I think LSU and Bama are the best power football teams in college football with maybe Stanford but they ain't earned it- Arky has the want and wore out Lsu last year- but that was one down year at Lsu

It really is amazing, the complete refusal to acknowledge five in a row. Do yall get treatments to eliminate bad things from the memory? Since when did Bama football start 7 years ago?

frick it, ole miss is our rival too now. Why not let everyone be our rival. You can't just run around deciding who is and is not our rival ok, it has to be a natural process. Auburn is obvious, UT at least shares a border and shite. We have to cross landmass to get to LSU so we do have some geographical limitations. If bama vs LSU basically decides the west every year for another 15 or 20 then we may have something we can work woth.

Uh, it's been important the last 7 years because have both teams have been good. That's all he was saying

8-15 years ago, Bama was not good and so it wasn't important. 16-100 years ago, LSU was not good so it wasn't important. Which selective timeframe do you want?

Exactly, GregAl. My best friend and I discussed this yesterday (we're both old enough to remember games that Coach Bryant coached). I asked him "If we could only beat one, would you rather beat Tennessee or LSU this year?" He said LSU, and so did I.

I'm not sure what the extended definition of "rivalry" is, where you have to have played for generations and such. While Alabama/Tennessee has much more history, and Alabama/auburn has much more hate, this Alabama/LSU game is the greatest game in the country year in and year out for the last several years. So we can call it what we want - to me, it's the biggest and best rivalry in the SEC.

And frick auburn.

I respect when Bama fans says this is not a rivalry.
I respect when Bama fans says their rivals are Tennessee and Auburn.
This is the marquee matchup of the SEC West for both teams. Just the way it is.

Paul Finebaum said that even with the TSIO (Bama-UT) game this past week, all Bama fans wanted to talk about was LSU.

LSU has no rivals. Only teams that treat LSU as their Super Bowl (Arky,OM,aTm and now Bama).

I never thought I'd see the day LSU would become Bama's Super Bowl. The reason for this, I believe, is the fact that the series is nearly even since LSU sent Bear Bryant into retirement with a beating in 1982 and the LSU domination of Bama from 2000-2011 (9-3).

They can sense that LSU is ready to re-establish this trend that started with the turn of the century. They have a blend of fear and respect and it's healthy for the "rivalry".

My God, Son. Grow the frick up. It's hard enough hearing this kind of blather from my own fans, I certainly shouldn't have to hear from a team we've beaten several years in a row.

Yall were undefeated in 2005. LSU has had two 5 loss seasons since 2008. It's "more important" because yall have won more in that span. What's the point in arguing otherwise?

Isn't the series at like 17-15-1 since the bear left?
