This is why Saban is successful in college and a disaster in the NFL.

Based on what they did in the NFL? Yes. Based on what the recruiting services said about them? No.

Saban is basically doing what Bear Bryant used to do, except with scholarship limits and more parity. It's actually quite a bit more impressive.

Bama has it going on right now, no doubt.

In the SEC these days, you sure increase your programs odds of winning consistently with great depth. The SEC grind is a bitch and Saban's awesome recruiting has increase Bama's chances each year ten-fold.

EDIT: The SEC is like playign no-limit Texas hold'em. Each year/season is like being dealt a new hand where every SEC program has a new hand that could be good or bad. So many great coaches/players sitting at the SEC table and we all never know who's has the killer hand going into any given season. If the cards fall just right, it might be your year (Killer hand). For Saban/Bama to sit a competitive table like this and do what he does yearly is amazing.

Can u imagine Saban being a coach in an attractive city like USC or Miami . He wouldn't have any 4 stars at all

I'm sure it is. And I would bet my life for real, everything I own, etc that almost all 68 of those players are getting 5 to 6 figures in impermissible benefits if you include whatever their family members, high schools and high school coaches got from bama boosters. In fact, I would be totally shocked if even 1 of the 68 was not paid above and beyond the rules.

There is a reason bama signs the #1 class every year and it is obvious.

Now, go ahead and say wah wah rival, barner or whatever bit reality is gumps care more about winning college football gamed than anyone else in the world. So they pay more for each win than anyone else.

And at the end of the day, that is fine, everyone can spend their money however they like on whatever makes them happy. But don't kid yourself, bama wins more because they pay more.

Kind of wondering why you don't win the National Championship every single year? I mean, no other team in the nation has anywhere close to that talent. You have, arguably the best facilities. The best coach.

I am NOT trolling. This is just something that has crossed my mind from time to time. Don't get me wrong....you do it (Win) better and more often than anybody else....but you should, right?

That would be a coaching problem, then.

And here I was thinking it was because they win so much and have a charismatic coach.

Do you really believe Alabama needs to pay players to go there to play football?

Out of those 68 less that half will make it to the NFL. I wonder why good high school players keep going to a loaded roster where many of them won't really see the field much?

Never understood that either. Same with college basketball. Why wouldn't you go to a school where you are the showcase talent? If you are talented enough to make the pros, it doesn't matter if you are at Iowa State or Alabama.

The real question that needs to be asked is why are they not blowing out everyone they play? Either the coaching equalizes everything or HS ratings are overrated.

Yes clearly this is the question. Everyone can see the underachievement in Tuscaloosa. I'm surprised Saban hasn't been fired or maybe demoted. I had feeling this last national championship bought him another year to right the ship.

So, in the millions of dollars per year in impermissible benefits? Link?
