This quote is revealing:

quote:

As noted elsewhere, the SEC went through a bad patch of basketball coaching this century. That has been corrected most places. Three SEC coaches (Barnes, Calipari, Howland) have taken teams to the Final Four. Three more (M. Anderson, Martin, Pearl) have reached the Elite Eight. One (Stallings) has made the Sweet Sixteen. One (Johnson) took a team to the NBA finals. One (K. Anderson) won a Division II championship. Of the 14 league coaches, only LSU’s Johnny Jones seems overmatched.

It will probably take more than just SC going undefeated against OCC teams.

The greatest collegiate basketball program in history calls the SEC home. The rest of you can relax.

It has to drive LSU crazy that they are so poor, but big brother is so rich.

Excuse me, I need to go brush my teeth with Perrier.

Are you stupid or just dumb. Please explain how a team that is behind Kentucky in every statistical category is better. We have more wins and more titles. Please, I'm all ears.

No wonder the SEC gets all this criticism. Most of you know absolutely dick about what's going on. Good Lord.

The SEC has the two greatest programs in history in the 2 major sports. We are fine.
I would like for us to be more competitive with the ACC from top to bottom in basketball.

Instead of Football? Nope. In addition to football? Of course. Florida won back-to-back titles with great talent. UK is competitive every year. The SEC needs someone other than UK to step up.

If Cousins & Bledsoe had stayed home and played at Bama, then UK would've still been good, but Bama would have too.

There are very talented kids across the southeast, and there are kids in the mid atlantic area who would come to an SEC team if they thought they'd have a chance for success (see UK constantly).

As would I. Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Alabama all should be doing more than what they have been. Not saying others can't or won't, but those guys really don't have any excuses to nor be consistently in the conversation for respectability.

Yes.

If the schools would invest in the sport more soundly, it could become a good basketball league.

Schools like LSU are doing their part in keeping basketball a 3rd tier sport in the SEC by keeping that shithead coach around.

The rest of SEC spends a lot less money on basketball than the ACC, Big twelve, and some Big East schools.

Calipari is the #1 highest paid coach in the NCAA with top 3 facilities (Duke, and UNC and very close)

The next highest paid SEC coach is #20. We don't invest enough in basketball ;therefore, excluding Kentucky, Donovan got UF to 4-5 final fours and two NC, and LSU made 4 final fours over a 40 year span. Arkansas was great under Nolan Richardson but have sucked ever since. The rest of the SEC has sucked in basketball.

Probably not. It is a culture thing. Football is first, foremost, and the main focus of the region. Basketball just doesn't get the attention it would need to be successful. It is clear when you watch games.

We've been working to get back on track, but surely haven't been pulling our weight.
