The dude was saying he should be making $3 million a year as a starter, in his 2nd contract, in the current market.

It's safe to say he has no clue how this works.

Elway knows what he's doing. He's just going to draft Dak and be done with it.

Yea, $3M is lower half of the league backup QB money

Josh McCown - 3 years, $14M
Mark Sanchez - 2 years, $9M
Chad Henne - 2 years, $8M
Drew Stanton - 2 years, $6.5M
Shaun Hill - 2 years, $6.5M

But Denver would be hiring him to be the starting QB. So, they have to pay him more than the top paid backup.

Not technically but the standard. I don't believe AJ has shown enough yet.

I think $3M in blow and hookers would do the trick

The FA market has been set, and the number is 15 million per year for any QB who is viewed as a starter.

Hell, Kirk Cousins is garbage and just got franchise tagged for 18 million. It's crazy to think he will sign a similar deal as Osweiler next year.

In a perfect world maybe not. But they aren't in a position to pay that. They have to pay a risk premium because of the market, their current depth chart situation, desire to win now and their draft situation.

What would you do in their position? Draft a QB late in the 1st round? They don't have a ton of options and still have a great defense to compete next year.

Yes my estimate was lower than second contracts are this year but he's not the "median" and would and should be setting a new lows for 2nd contracts if Denver was going to sign him.

Again man

Each time you post you display total ignorance on this topic.

Basically their options are

- Sign a free agent (Fitzpatrick, RG3)
- trade for AJ and probably give him an extension
- trade for Kap
- draft a guy like Cook or Prescott and just roll with him

I think they either sign a guy like Fitzpatrick on a 2 year deal or trade for AJM. There is no way Dak or Connor Cook is gonna start at QB next season and win a bunch of games. Zero.

And those are literally their only options. There isn't another one.

Probably wait a year and see what happens. Maybe RGIII in a one year contract just to save a few games and hand the ball off. Dunno....

RG3 wouldn't sign a one year deal.

You're saying AJ is going to sign a long term deal as a starter based off the few games he played in last season... That is laughable.

I mean, that is exactly what Osweiler just did.

And sitting behind a legend doesn't mean anything. Curtis Painter wasn't given any big deals because he was Manning's backup in Indy. Neither was Scott Tolzein.

It is worth the risk, they have the defense to win a championship just need average-above average QB play.

There isn't high demand for RGIII. He's a fill-in until a team can get who they want.

Hmmmmmm.....

I wonder where we've seen that happen before?
