Don't see how any recruit could choose Horns over Aggies if they are watching their games on TV or especially attending them.

A&M can offer recruits two major benefits--stay in-state to play AND play in the SEC (the real NFL Development League). OU and t.u. can't do that. So long as Sumlin coaches them well (and so far that seems to be the case) the crystal football will soon be in the Brazos Valley.

Actually no I don't miss the regional rivalries from the other conference. I grew up seeing us play Arky yearly, then it was gone. It's good to be back to playing them and LSU each year, as well as the rest of the SEC West. Lot's of family across those state lines. I wouldn't trade Kentucky for Baylor or TCU, or even Oklahoma, for example.

The entire SEC appears to be very tight. Sure there is infighting, but is that a surprise? So, why is the SEC so tight, or are they? When Georgia goes to a bowl game does Florida & Alabama root for them? I would guess mostly yes, but I do not know. Any thoughts?

Some recent examples of how bad they have gotten now that A&M isn't there to hold them in check:

Mack Brown at his PC this week said that people doing the "horns down" is disrespectful and all but called of a banning of the practice (as if that is possible).

Texas wants to have the Thanksgiving game with A&M to be replaced with a rotation of other Big 12 Teams, just to make sure that the game is always a Texas home game ala the Dallas Cowboys.

When you hear quotes about what is going on with the conference decision wise, it is just as likely the quotes will come from DeLoss Dodds directly as the B12 Commish, they don't even try to pretend he is more than a puppet anymore.

All High School Games in Texas are administered by the "University Interscholastic League" which is actually a branch of Texas. For the most part this has no effect but one of their schemes with the LHN was not only to broadcast HS games but to use the UIL to drop their contracts with other networks and have all HS Championship games on the LHN.

Bama fans are arrogant and obviously they have the most pull with the SEC offices in a lot of ways but they don't have real control and they always put the conference first. Texas doesn't even try to hide that the only purpose of the Big 12 is to serve them and that all schools should bow down and be thankful that Texas allows them to bask in their glow. A lot of Texas fans truly thought that A&M would fall into obscurity and never recover if we were unable to play them every year.

Of course the real difference is Bama has actually won a lot of NC's and truly been dominant. Texas has 3 legit NC's, 3. The 1970 NC they claim is a UPI Title which didn't include bowl games as Texas went on to get destroyed by Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl. Sure Bama claims some questionable ones but they still have a truckload of legit titles. Almost all of Texas' real success comes from the era of no scholarship limitations when most of the SWC had half the scholarships Texas did. A lot of Texas fans honestly didn't understand why we wanted to go SEC as well because it was "too hard". It just doesn't compute to them that you would play a schedule that has more than a few schools that are several notches below you resource wise to assure yourself of an easy 8-9 wins.

I freaking hate those arrogant assholes. They despise fair fights and truly believe their shite doesn't stink.

3 years ago, I lived in Ft. Leavenworth, KS (Big 12 country). Without a special sports package, I was able to see 5 of our 13 games on television

That would have sucked arse.

The thing that REALLY sucked was that most of the games were horrifically done on Fox, the production value was mid '80s quality and rarely HD. This was the Big 12 TV deal:

Tier 1: REGIONAL broadcast on ABC at 2:30
Tier 2: Fox Sports Net game at 6pm
Tier 3: Fox Game at 11AM with borrowed equipment from PBS.

They had the ability to broadcast more games and sometimes did on TBS and other non sports networks. The Texas/A&M game was the ONLY guaranteed national broadcast on Thanksgiving Night, though obviously they did pick up a lot of others (Texas/OU was typically 11AM Nationally on ABC for instance but it was more of an exception like the CBS Night Game).

Many weeks you would have 3 Big 12 games on TV. That's 12 schools, 3 games. I remember being so upset that I lived in Texas and could see more SEC and Big 1G games than Big 12 games many weeks. Their new TV deal is better but it still is a joke compared to the SEC, much less once the SEC Network launches.

It's all true about Texas.
I'm glad A&M is in the SEC.

I miss nothing about the Big XXII. I hope we never play Tech/baylor/Texas again in any sport.

I love the SEC tv package...every game on tv is a huge improvment over the shitty Big XXII package
