Born and raised in TX, but this is one of those running beliefs that made me want to leave. It's one thing to be proud of your state (which I am), but it seems to me that there's a ton of people in TX who talk down on every other state when they haven't, in fact, actually been to these states (just a general rule, not saying it applies to you).

You haven't been everywhere. To blindly say things like, "Texas is the greatest place on earth," and then scoff at people who would DARE to suggest otherwise just always pissed me off.

TeLeFaWx,

Let's just say I'm supremely confident that my sources and knowledge of the inner workings of how A&M athletics operates are better than yours. Believe what you wish though.

Money is what created the Arkie series and money will end it. I agree playing games in Dallas is good for A&M (though not critical to be an annual event) but there are lots of ways to accomplish that. We might do a 2 for 1 with North Texas and put the "1" in Jerryworld for instance.

As for the Texas talk. Texas is great because it has always gotten the most out of what it has. The people and culture in Texas is as driven and self reliant as any place on earth. It also has a lot of natural resource advantages with a centralized location, decent weather, great port access, lots of black gold, and great farmland. Texas does have excellent food though with lots of diversity with Tex Mex, our own style of BBQ, and a strong Cajun/Seafood influence as well particularly in East Texas. While Texas has a lot of very beautiful areas though it isn't that great compared to many states. There is nowhere to ski. The beaches are mediocre to bad with brown water, lots of seafood but not nice for vacationing. The forests aren't particular interesting with most of the trees being evergreen. If you go 50 miles West of Austin you have hundreds of miles of some of the most boring land in the US, though there a few exceptions like Big Bend.

If I were picking a state on overall physical beauty it would be hard to beat California, the problem is they have ruined the place with liberalism run amok. Arkansas is also a far prettier state than Texas in general but it just doesn't have the resources to compete, though it has come a long way in the last 30 years. Florida is a gorgeous state but it has very little diversity to it in terms of land. Tennessee and South Carolina are really nice and I could easily live in either (though I don't know if I could handle the freaking mustard based BBQ and lack of good Mexican food).

BTW, I took a drive from Texas to SC to Florida and back this Summer and one thing I just don't understand. Why are all the Interstates just surrounded by forests so you can't see anything? There are the esthetics of being able to see some diversity which would be nice but I just don't get how that land isn't developed. It has to be valuable with that access. Why don't people at least have farms there or more little towns? That was a real striking difference I noticed between the South and Texas that I just didn't understand, I mean it's not like people haven't been living and farming in those states for 200 years or there are lots of other great roads.

I mean. You might have better "sources and knowledge", but I have read the Jerry World contract. I have held a copy. The person that files FOIA requests on behalf of the Eagle for any Athletic Department related material is my friend. I lived with him in college for 2 years. I mean Billy Liucci follows me on Twitter for God's sake. I am not discrediting anything you say, as you might be someone that knows far more than I ever will, but let's not compare sources as if it means a resolution to any disagreement.

Secondly, If you think a game every three years against North Texas is going to accomplish what an annual SEC GAME in the metroplex, you are insane. Alabama scheduled Michigan. LSU scheduled Arkansas. tu plays OU. You don't schedule a powderpuff for a neutral site game, especially if you are trying to brand yourself as a representative of Texas in the SEC. You are honestly retarded if you think your North Texas scenario accomplishes ANYTHING.

The only people who seem to be in favor of this are the Arkies. For A&M it is much better for us to have the game at home every other year. More lucrative for us, better game day atmosphere, etc.

For Arkansas they are desperate to get their brand back into Texas and playing a game in Dallas every year is their best bet.

TEXAS A&M AND ARKANSAS RENEW SERIES IN ARLINGTON

COLLEGE STATION, Texas—Texas A&M University and the University of Arkansas, along with the Dallas Cowboys’ organization, have agreed to a new long-term series to play the annual football game between the two schools at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington beginning in 2014 and continuing through the 2024 season.

Texas A&M and Arkansas had played the Southwest Classic three times in a 10-year neutral site non-conference series beginning in 2009 at Cowboys Stadium. With the Aggies’ move to the Southeastern Conference, the game is now a Western Division contest and the 2012 game will be played at Kyle Field, with the 2013 contest scheduled for the Razorbacks’ home stadium.

“We appreciate Jerry Jones and everyone in the Cowboys’ organization working with us over the past year concerning the future of the Arkansas series at Cowboys Stadium. This was a significant, unresolved issue as part of our transition to the SEC, and it was imperative for Texas A&M to play Arkansas at Kyle Field this season – our first as a member of the conference,” said Texas A&M President R. Bowen Loftin. “Having a game annually in the MetroPlex is very advantageous for Texas A&M from a visibility and recruiting standpoint, and we have an annual opportunity for our student-athletes to experience one of the country’s finest football stadiums.”

The last meeting at Kyle Field between the two schools was Nov. 16, 1991 as part of the Southwest Conference, with Texas A&M winning, 13-3, in a game nationally televised by ESPN. The Razorbacks came out in the wishbone formation on offense that day, but the Wrecking Crew held the Hogs to 121 yards of total offense.

The two schools first met on the gridiron in 1903 with Texas A&M winning, 6-0. Texas A&M and Arkansas were part of the inaugural group of eight schools that formed the Southwest Conference in 1915. From 1934 through 1991, the teams met every season as part of the Southwest Conference. Arkansas withdrew from the league in 1991 to join the Southeastern Conference. Texas A&M was part of the formation of the Big 12 Conference in 1996 and has joined the SEC in 2012.

An open forest is ok. A roadside that is basically 100% undergrowth for miles and miles is another thing all together.

So you're saying A&M is opposed to this move? And we're still doing it anyway?

Interesting, I seem to remember a certain A&M poster that was blathering on about how much clout you guys have because Slive loves all your TVs. That guy was wrong apparently.

Locked in til 2024

Will be a tough competitive rivalry. We've bested you guys the last few years and I hope this isn't A&M's year to breakthrough. The history of Arkansas/A&M seems to be that we spoil each other's seasons more than dominate when either of us are suppossed to.

Playing in the swankest stadium annually is a great strategic move for both schools. Plus it'll hopefully lock OSU/Baylor/Tech/Mizzou/the land mass schools/UT/ND/Mich/tOSU/USC/FSU etc out of the metroplex except for rare occasions.

Hopefully the SEC goes to a nine game schedule to make up for this lost home conference game.

in all honesty if there were just a light rail stop out there in Arlington so people could actually party hard at places around DFW before and after the game and if the tix weren't priced like a bowl game I wouldn't hate going out there nearly as much.

The stadium atmosphere will always suck with that giant arse tv hovering over the field though.

I'm going to have to disagree then with my brothers. I like the idea of home and home better, but it is what it is - might as well make the best of it.
