basically Chip Brown is saying that Direct Tv has shot down the LHN for the foreseeable plans.

The SEC network was the probably the last chance to get Dtv to pick it up, and it sounds like Dtv have decided its not worth getting that network.

I did the same thing back in May and told them 100% LHN.

Overall, I prefer Dish. The Hopper is excellent and the lack of lag in the remotes is a bonus. The fact that LHN is in SD is a weak point, but by hitting the "dash" button on the remote, I can fill the screen, and my TVs do a pretty good job of upscaling the image so that, most of the time, I forget I'm watching SD. Since it is supposed to be broadcast in HD on game days, I can live with that one weakness in service for now. DTV would have to do a lot more than pick up LHN at this point to lure me back.

"sec network looking at limited distribution"

The SECNetwork is going to suck balls. But it's not looking at anything resembling limited distribution.

I'm all for schadenfreude, esp richly deserved, but this thread did just not work out.

Just how bad does it suck to be Texas?

You think you're on top of the world with your own personal TV network in the works

Then, you lose on the national stage, crying to anyone that listens it's only because Colt got hurt.

Then, 1/3 of your conference up and leaves, including the school you had spent decades convincing yourself would never leave without you (A&M).

Then, you see the same conference they leave you for successfully pull off, in a shorter time span, the TV network you so desperately wanted.

And, finally? No one seems to listen to you when you scream about how great you are.

...

Just reading that thread, seeing how they claim that an entire conference will lack quality programming, but at the same time a single school can? What do they put in the water in Austin anyway?

Just a point of order here. The Las Vegas Metro is almost 2 million people without a pro sports franchise. That's a little less than twice as large as Austin.

Austin metro is like 1.8 but point taken. I think Austin is the largest city without one, Vegas is the largest metro. Both are probably fricked as far as getting one any time soon honestly

I highly doubt Texas would care for a pro team of any sort in Austin and would fight it tooth and nail from happening.

shite, they can't even bring themselves to share conference revenues evenly w/full Big 12 Net. No fricking way they'd be willing to compete w/a pro team.

I think if Vegas REALLY wanted one, they could pull it off - there's enough money rolling through that town to pull it off (though I think something permanently indoor, like an NBA franchise, would be best).

Austin has no prayer regardless.

Small part of the reason San Antonio still doesn't have an NFL team.

Thanks for fricking things up AGAIN, sips.

MLB would probably be the best shot (though still extremely slim) but the owners of the Astros/Rangers fighting it. NBA clearly isn't happening with three teams and the Spurs like an hour away and LA is way ahead of Austin/everyone else on the NFL pecking order, plus the direct comp with UT football would throw everybody up in arms.

I think an MLS team in Austin is a strong possibility though and would do pretty well.

I don't know about the rest of you, but if the SECN really aired the show scheduled from 8:00-9:00pm I'd have my cable turned back on.

Plus, the Spurs' D-League team is already in Austin (Austin Toros).

They'd better get one before SA does or they'll face the same problem they have with the Spurs.

Scary thing is, when all the conference shake ups were happening there were people on here that want UTx to join the SEC. The only thing that would have been worse was adding UTx and Notre Dame, the arrogance meter would break in about 2 minutes.

I want to know what happened to them. Would be great for our tailgate if I had one of these babies.

I saw one at a Kroger in Houston once that was repainted in blue and red being used to promote buying tailgating supplies during the Texans season.

Isn't there a rule that sports betting is illegal in cities where professional teams reside? I thought that's why Vegas hasn't gotten a team yet.

It's an interesting dichotomy of reactions from bevo's camp.

On the one hand you have the Randolph Duke's who say "doesn't matter, it's only money and we still have more than anyone, and we still have our very own private network too"(lol for now anyway)

then you have the "Dear Randolph, YES I AM PISSED" camp that is melting faster than a 1 cent birthday candle. For them the realization that Bevo has sank yet another conference, is setting in and it's only a matter of time before they are either the next pseudo-Notre Dame like, indie or they are going to eat a big piece of humble pie and go hat in hand, knocking at the door of the PAC/B1G.

The implosion has only just begun,
And the best part of all is that AtM and Mizzou get to watch from the comfort of our new, best in the world, conference home!

It would've been in the BCS era. It won't be in the Playoff era.

There are four playoff spots with five power conferences. The conference Texas is in is the only one of the five without a conference championship game, and to get that game they would have to add crappy programs to their conference.

The Big 12 isn't in the best spot.

No, the best part is the same Big 12 disease that gave Texas a hiccup is rotting OU from the inside.
