Well that'd run Saban and the rest of the SEC imposters off then!

I'm against it.

Do away with permanent rivals if a better rotation against the other division is the desired outcome.

If you went to non divisions with 2 permanent & 6 rotating. Would these permanents work

UF - UGA/LSU
LSU - UF/ARK
OM - UK/MSU
UK - MSU/OM

9 games presents a pretty significant problem though. Home/road splits. That's a BIG competitive disadvantage.

HOW when it'll be a BIG competitive ADVANTAGE for those 7 schools the following year.

Perhaps just get rid of the divisions. I know you said you didn't like this but make everything rotating except a 2-3 permanents. Someone posted this the other day and I kinda like it. 3 perms and 5 rotating and keep the 8 game in-conference. You see everybody at home every 4 years. Championship game is decided like divisions are now by best record with tie breakers being head to head, overall record, best common opponent head to head.

HELL NO! Divisions is the ONLY way to compare 7 schools to each other in a fair way because they are each other's common opponents. You do 3 perm/5 rotating & you'll have NUMEROUS tiebreaker scenarios to implment.....not to hear even MORE complaints about "why does _____ get to play ____ more times than we do"?

I am also for whatever it takes that makes it to where Bama can't duck Florida and Georgia in the regular season.

Les, is that you?

from an LSU fan: "I am also for whatever it takes that makes it to where Auburn can't duck Tennessee and Florida in the regular season."

Nay:

It creates unequal schedules every year. Just about every year a division or even the conference will be determined by who had an unequal number of home vs road games and who drew several strong or weak opposite division opponents.

How so? 1 year the East has 5 home games.....next year the West has 5 home games. HOW is that a disadvantage since it's the most fair way to sort 9 games.

Nay. Eliminate permanent cross-divisional rivals. Problem solved.

At the current rate we're not scheduled to play Tennessee again until 2022 it needs badly to be changed to 9 games. Also Auburn needs to be moved over to the East when they do finally decide to change to 9 game conference schedule.

Auburn ain't moving east unless they're bringing Alabama with them because the SEC WON'T split teams from the same state into different divisions. So, Tenn./Vandy, Ala./Aub., & Miss./MSU will ALWAYS be paired.

NO changes to the schedule unless we get rid of the silly permanent opponent.

If a "few" permanent games (e.g.: Alabama-Tennessee) have to occur to keep the world from ending...then let them schedule their match as a non-conference game in the years they're not scheduled to play in the rotation.

Or we can stay as is & have a game between 2 conf. members COUNT as a conf. game!

For those for 9...what about 10? That's really the perfect number for our current setup.

You can still keep permanent crossover games and you rotate the other 3 every year. Will always have an even home/road number and every 4 year player will play every SEC school home and away.

Makes sense except for 4 problems.....

UGA - 10 SEC, GT, game #12
UF - 10 SEC, FSU, game #12
UK - 10 SEC, Louisville, game #12
USC - 10 SEC, Clemson, game #12

Go to 9 or create some formula where Tennessee-Alabama and Georgia-Auburn can play each other once a year and the other 10 teams can drop the permanent other division game. If we're going to have so many teams, I'd like to see Missouri,Georgia and South Carolina in Baton Rouge more than once every 10-12 yrs.

Nice in thought, but mathematically WON'T work out

For the eleventy billionth time, the REAL solution is to Move Bama and Auburn to the east, Mizzou and Vandy to the west and eliminate the cross division rivals. All the traditional rivalries still get played (UT vs Bama, UGA vs Auburn, Bama vs Auburn) and all the other teams get to see each other on a meaningful basis.

Sorry, but Vandy & Tenn. WON'T be in different divisions any more than Alabama/Auburn or Miss./MSU will be.

For whom is at a "disadvantage" will have the "advantage" the following year. So, basically it washes itself.

I'm in favor of a 9 game conference schedule and keeping perm rivals. That would double the # of times we play each non-perm team from the other division.

I would also be in favor of the "roommate switch" scenario.

I get that, but half of the teams in any given year will be at a disadvantage. You don't have that in any year with an even number of games.

This. The SECW was just overrated as hell last year. It happens.

And the solution to our problem is to get rid of our divisions. They aren't required anymore.

That is true......but there's no way to take 14 teams & have a balanced schedule. B1G is going to a parity format & you might as well say the ACC has 15 teams.
