They will be horrible. Like 1 or 2 SEC wins bad. No way Tyndall can press with 6 people next year counting walk on's.

We will have 13. Likely 2 5th year transfers+4 more signees.

Is Cheivous staying or going? He requested transfer under Martin but I've heard he may not transfer now.

I do believe Thompson has asked for — or is in the process of asking for — a release.

I do not believe Hubbs and Davis have asked for a release at this point.

I believe Tennessee would let Davis go but would fight like crazy to keep Thompson and Hubbs.

That's the very latest I have. Hope to have more later. Supposed to be speaking with Tyndall sometime in the next hour.

That's fine with me. As I said, we weren't going to accomplish anything next year anyway. Iirc you predicted Tennessee to finish bottom 4 in the league when Stokes announced he was leaving.

It was going to be ugly either way. Now that is completely torn down it can start to be built back up. The same thing was going to happen next year when Cuonzo was fired.
Sure, it was always going to be bad either way, but having the few young, promising players that Cuonzo left transfer out can't be a good sign.

Hubbs isn't leaving as of now. Davis and Thompson have asked to be released. That is the extent of what has been reported

The same thing happened to Pearl, as I said. Lost Hendrix, Yates, Thomas, Mason, Tyler Smith and Jamont Gordon in the first summer.

Here is a scout.com article from the summer when Pearl was hired.

quote:

That's right -- four guards, two centers, no real swingmen, and only one forward. Bradshaw is the tallest returning guard at 6'4''. Pearl is squirming to make a big impression on people while he still has all of these seniors. The efforts to add Oklahoma State and Texas to the out of conference schedule demonstrate that Pearl knows that it is now or never if UT wants to get on the national stage. But don't worry this season doesn't pan out, Pearl does have a backup plan. He has a verbal commitment from Cordell Passley, who is -- get this -- one of the top 100 rising sophomores in high school. But that just begs the question -- if Pearl couldn't handle verbals from high school seniors, how does he expect to hold onto a 15 year old for three years? And who will be left in the UT locker room to greet this kid if he does sign? Bruce Pearl and Tennessee really need to suprise some people this season, or their program will be on life support. They have already slipped off the list of Brendan Wright, which might help Vanderbilt pitch the "hometown school" angle to the top-five rising senior. With Dennis Felton building the foundations of an impressive program at the University of Georgia, Tennessee might soon find itself locked in the cellar of the SEC East for many years to come.

Thompson is saying he hasn't ruled out staying which is odd to me since he's not a recruit. Sounds like he's very unsure right now and wants to be recruited a bit by both other schools and us but it's really bad timing because I'd rather be focusing on this class than recruiting an unsure player. Rarely do players stay if they ask for release so just seems an odd statement to make. But he may feel threatened by the PG signed and Punter's commitment and want to know if that means he's not gonna get PT. IDK.

Hubbs is the one I'm most interested in staying. But Thompson would be nice to hang on to given the system.

Never caught the hype with Thompson outside of his ability with the no look pass. Especially in Tyndalls system.

-He dribbles way, way to high
-Has a lot of trouble breaking the press.
-Extremely slow drawn out style of play. (Ok for half court oriented offenses)
-Brings very little to the table from a scoring aspect.
- Isn't a slasher nor does he look to draw the foul.

Just about everything Tyndalls style of play isn't.

Granted, he's only a sophomore and has time to develop, but Hubbs IMO would be the only true set back out of the 3.

Tyndall does not play fast. It is a one trap and drop system. Thompson's length is perfect for that defensively and the offensive staff is pretty similar to Cuonzo's pace wise.

As far as dribbling too high and having trouble with the press, his assist to turnover ratio was pretty damn good for a frosh PG.

Sounds like both Thompson and Davis are approaching this like Cofer. Want to be re-recruited, but still interested in Tennessee.

"This is a new coach I'm getting to know," Davis said. "I want to be able to get to know other coaches as well."

Lonnie Thompson said his son, who was likely going to start as a sophomore point guard for the Vols in 2014-15, wants to explore his other options but has not yet completely ruled out a return to UT.

Would not be surprised if Tyndall doesn't grant the releases.

Thompson was good on defense and as a passer. He likes to steal the ball which is actually something that would make him fit a helluva lot better in Tyndall's system than Martin's but Martin's style was slow as mud it's hard to tell how much was Martin vs. Thompson but he's definitely more of a depth player at this point than a producer. Who know tho' he could very well thrive under the new system/new coach with more fire. But I'm with you Hubbs would be the only big loss.

I checked on Chievous and he's staying through summer workouts and may not transfer now that Martin is gone. Chievous should've been given more minutes last year by Martin than he was.

Chievous is not good. His only offer is Eastern Kentucky.

Any reason for the confidence in landing Chiles? Just wondering because he OV here and we are still recruiting him.

Seriously? Over whom?

Just because he's a 6'5" PF doesn't mean he's Bradshaw.

Never said he was Bradshaw just saying that because a kid had no offers doesn't make him a bad player. Chievous never got a fair shake from Zo and was transferring out. Now he's staying through summer workouts to see how it goes. How on Earth is that a bad thing? Well unless you just want it to be a bad thing...
