I don't think we got the snap off, but how did a second tick off of the game clock, but not the play clock? Weird.

Ok, the team I root for didn't get it off. Better? I've already said, In this thread I think, that I was pretty positive when the play started we didn't get it off. Was also surprised there were no flags thrown for not being set. LSU fans can bitch and moan all they want about it, but it won't change anything. Some people are happy that Les was fired because of what happened, but I'm pissed because it gave O a chance to get the job.

Clock definitely was at 0 but that's not the point. The Ref did NOT signal for the clock to start the clock worker just did it as soon as the ball was placed down. The receiver was not set but he was the only one moving so wouldnt that be considered a player in motion?

LsU should have been able to hire someone a lot more qualified or with a better resume.

Agreed. We could have done a lot better. Don't get me wrong I am a Coach O fan, especially now. But the hiring process seemed lazy, Alleva just said frick it I'll hire Ed. I find it mind boggling that Alleva didn't pursue anyone besides Fisher, who already turned us down last year, and Herman, who expressed interest in the Texas position.

No, because he was on the LOS.

Ha. Those last 24 seconds show that awesome Kevin Steele defense. If not for the home cooking, LSU wins that game.

The ball didn't get snapped in time, pretty clearly. That's why this was already over. But there's a good case, brought to our attention since the ending of the game, that the last ill-fated snap shouldn't have happened, anyway.

Officials appear to have misreported the LSU dead-ball foul on the second-to-last play of the game. On that play, LSU receiver Chark never got set before LSU's late snap, which is the sort of illegal shift defined as a false start. That likely should've been called a dead-ball foul that, unlike, illegal shifting, would've carried a 10-second runoff, because the game clock was running. This isn't reviewable, so it didn't turn out to change anything about the last play.

Officials missed a similar illegal shifting-false start on LSU's Travin Dural (No. 83 at the bottom of the screen above) on the last snap that didn't count. If LSU had been called for false starting instead of an illegal shift on the previous play, that would've been game over before all of this. We'll see what, if anything, the SEC has to say about this point.

I've never understood at what point the clock starts.

In that situation, it is supposed to start when the referee signals ready for play. The referee holds his hand upward until ready for play, then brings his hand down and moves it in the circular motion to signal starting of the clock. [see figures 1 and 2 here]. He may also blow his whistle, but in a loud stadium and with the ref as far behind the QB as he usually is, the QB and center may not hear it.

The largest relief for LSU fans is that we don't have to watch a Les Miles team fumble around with the clock running down anymore.

The only problem is the absurd alternative........

I was at that game. LSU deserved to lose, IMO, based on nothing more than the multiple times LSU wasted precious seconds on that last drive.

Yup. Actually on both of the "last" plays for LSU they had a WR that never got set. So not only did they not get the snap off in time AND have a WR in motion on the play that didn't happen, but that play really should have never been given a chance to happen because had the penalty been called on the play before it would have been a 1o second run off and the game would have been over.

So LSU fans are technically right that the refs blew the end of that game, but what they don't realize is that the blown calls were in favor of LSU giving them a chance they never should have gotten at all
