Just ran a few simulations over at the College Football Game Simulator here.

FINAL SCORE -- Louisiana State (2012): 19 - Clemson (2016): 20 (this was only one of many simulated games)

Matchup Simulation Stats

This game has been simulated 17 times.
Louisiana State (2012) has won 9 times (52.9%), won by > 20 pts 3 times (17.6%)
Clemson (2016) has won 8 times (47.1%), won by > 20 pts 4 times (23.5%)
The average score is Louisiana State (2012): 18.8 - Clemson (2016): 20.2, decided by < 5 pts 3 times (17.6%)
The game has gone into overtime 0 times (0.0%)

Conclusion: pick'em. It would be pretty darn close.

2015 Clemson vs 2011 LSU

Which was the best team not to win a national title? Got to be 2015 Clemson right? They would have gone down as one of the best teams ever if they went 15-0. Plus they played Alabama a lot closer than LSU did in '11.

Let's see if they could have gone 14-1 with a schedule that included three Top 3 teams (Oregon, Arkansas, Alabama, plus at Top 15 West Virginia, Florida, Auburn, at Tennessee, and at #9 Georgia in SECCG.
Plus I guess the fact that you lost at Tuscaloosa just like....went away or something.
LSU outscored 9 bowl teams 500-123....
FIVE HUNDRED........to 123....

Clemson would have moved the ball and scored, but I don't think they would have won..

I'm saying on 1/9/12, if this Clemson team played LSU, with that abortion of an offense that took the field (half of it), it's not even close. FACT!!!

You still don't know what a fact is, do you?

2011 LSU gave up 20+ 3 times total that season, but this 2015 Clemson team would beat them by more than 20 four times out of ten games?

Right.

Nah, compare SOS for each team and margin of defeat. Plus one played in the SEC in its prime and the other the ACC

The answer is 2011 LSU. Not really a good troll though when there is a simple, correct answer... Doesn't matter either way though, both were runner-ups.

LSU would have struggled to score much. LSU's defense was good enough to hold down even Watson. If Clemson is at full strength at receiver though it would be a very close game.

So, they got into a two-team playoff but you think they would not have gotten into a four-team playoff?

LSU 2011 was one of the best teams I have seen. Clemson 2015 was very good. Each got a chance to play for the title. Auburn 2004 never got a chance to play for the title and would be a candidate for the best team not to win a National title. However there is really only one answer: Alabama 1966
