you lost me when you called a top ten team mediocre
and you called a game in which a team held a top ten team to 7 points in a win a "mediocre performance"
I don't think I can take your opinion very seriously.

You're 100% right and any impartial judge would agree
But this the SECrant where 90% of posters have some illogical deep seeded hate for Auburn. Auburn can do no right in their eyes, so this thread is wasted effort on these mouth breathers.

Did you score a touchdown? No.
Both teams looked like shite.

In general, what a fricking arbitrary metric for separating mediocre teams from not mediocre teams.
I'm glad to know that now I can call 2011 Alabama a mediocre team.

And in the same vein, I could take a cheap pot shot at the 9-6 "Game of the Century"

Probably one of those mouth breathers that thought Auburn wasn't on the level of USC in 2004 because of the final score against Va Tech, even though it was what it was because Tuberville would routinely get a large early lead and shut down the offense, letting the defense finish out games.

I always thought Auburn got hosed that year. Not much on Auburn, but facts are facts. I think where Auburn killed themselves though was in the Sugar Bowl. Had they just scored 1 damn touchdown, they would have at least won a share, either AP or UPI
Another interesting tidbit for you. AUburn and Miami both played FSU. MIami kicked a field goal on the last play of the game to win in Tallahassee. AUburn beat FSU in Jordan-Hare. My cousin was at Auburn at the time and I rode over for that game. It was a freakin classic. Bo broke some big runs, Auburn scored late. FSU was driving when the clock hit zero.
Auburn should have had at least a split.

I remember having to watch the news to see who won the national championship that year. Come a long way

We left no doubt who the best team was in the title game did we?
Which btw you don't even make if the had the BCS then so you STILL don't have shite to say about getting screwed.
Either of the major polls could have given you the nod. Sonny you didn't even finish 2nd

...what does that have to do with anything.
You, my friend, have some weird fricking standards for where to set bars in the CFB world. The BCS wasn't in use in 1983, what does it even matter?

Auburn also played and beat Florida, while Florida beat Miami 28-3.
Auburn (IMHO) blew the MNC by having three close calls in a row to end the season.
If we had decisively beaten UGA (especially when they went on to beat UT) Bama, and UM, I think we would have gotten the benefit of the doubt and jumped MIami.

I actually do, Mechanical Engineer in Huntsville. Got the day off after pulling my back at the gym and am stuck in bed working remotely.
At the moment I'm running some OpenFOAM from my laptop and watching it take two hours to run a single simulation.

Southern Cal got better in 2004. A good bit better.

Even looking decent against UM might have done it.

Well I'm sitting here on aisle 9 just waiting for the intercom to tell me to bring a mop and bucket.

Going in to the Bowl games Nebraska was 12-0 and #1. Texas was 11-0 and #2. Texas had also beat #3 ranked Auburn. So Nebraska and Texas should have played for the National Championship. Texas are the ones who got screwed. Regardless of resumes. Texas beat Auburn head to head and were undefeated.

To answer the OP's question, no, 1983 Auburn was not the biggest hosing. In fact, it wasn't a hosing at all.

The perception of the SEC back then is that it was very competitive within itself, but it wasn't really a national conference that could handle national teams. Auburn proved that with their pathetic performance against Texas and v USC and Nebraska in other years. Auburn was a wuss against anyone outside the SEC, and other SEC schools resented it because Auburn would play anyone in the SEC with their heart and soul and act like a girl against anybody else.
And, that 1983 Florida team should have won that game but Neal Anderson fumbled the ball going into the endzone and Bo took it all the way on the next play. So, the national audience perceived Auburn as not ready for prime time against the likes of Texas, and really should have lost v. Florida.
Also, nobody respected Pat Dye for the way he handled the Greg Pratt situation with the fake fraternity brother shirts to try to incite emotion in the Auburn faithful against opposing fans by having an Auburn fraternity pretend to disrespect Pratt. It was a thing.
