I love my school but we are the Atlanta Braves of CFB. At least we aren't the Buffalo Bills I guess

I think you put too much into the OP. Nobody has time to read and put that all of information together. Plus you have to know your audience.
And the phrase "biggest hosing" is a turn off as well. Seems too extreme even though it's not needed. Every CFB fan can point to a game or crucial time and claim they were hosed the worst.
Still waiting.

All Osborne had to do was kick the extra point against Miami and there would have been no question who was #1 in 1983.

It took fifteen minutes to Google the final rankings and the results of each game for all of those teams is on Wikipedia pages made for those teams.
And if reading is too difficult that's why there is a cliffnotes bit at the top
But he didn't, and that's what makes it so interesting.

"But no, #5 Miami jumps Auburn. Why?"
That 1983 natty title snub is certainly one of the bigger hosejobs in modern college football history and definitely the biggest in Auburn history, much more so than 2004 imho. It's not any worse than the 1966 Alabama and 1977 Alabama snubs.
1966 gets all the attention but I'm not sure the 1977 snub isn't as bad or worse:
In 1977, Alabama ran the table against a very good schedule after a season opening loss by a TD at a top 10 ranked Nebraska team. That Alabama team smoked the same Ole Miss team that upset Notre Dame within a few weeks of those two games. #5 Notre Dame beat #1 Texas in the Cotton Bowl while #3 Alabama throttled Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl while #2 also lost their bowl game. Notre Dame jumped #3 Alabama going from #5 to #1 in the final poll. Alabama finished the year #2

IMO Miami earned it. Sure they got their asses handed to them in the first game of the season. But so did Auburn. The score in the Texas game was 20-0 with roughly 90 seconds remaining in the game.
Had Auburn not struggled to beat Michigan in the Sugar Bowl they might have had a more convincing argument. But the fact of the matter is, Miami played last and beat a team that was considered unbeatable.

Auburn had a better resume than Miami though, by a lot. Does one game negate an entire seasons worth of a resume?

Cliff notes bit would've been fine by itself.

I'd be interested in seeing what teams would have won past championships if they went back and applied the BCS formula after the bowl games were played

When you're a Top 5 team playing the #1 team in a bowl game? Yeah.

The same thing happened to Alabama in 1977.

Another problem for Auburn was that the Sugar Bowl had been moved from New Year's Eve to New Year's night and aired around the same time as the Orange Bowl (which NBC has pushed as the "national championship" game).

A lot of it has to do with it being created by an Auburn fan. No one on the site is going to get positive feedback most of the time making a thread about their own school. Irrational but true. If a neutral fan started it then I don't think you would see as much push back
Bingo
This board is a 100% shite talk board the last few years. To have actual discussion is borderline.
Even attempt to bring stats and facts into and somebody gets pissed and calls you stupid since they can't actually dispute it. 100% of the time.

If Nebraska and Auburn played on a neutral field in 1983, who do you think would have won?

Beating those Nebraska teams back then was a MUCH bigger deal than anyone Auburn beat.
No it wasn't. Nebraska in the 1980's LOST every big game they ever played.

Unless it was against LSU in the Sugar Bowl. They did pretty well in those games.

Can't answer that because that was 8 years before I was born, but do you think Nebraksa could have had an answer for Bo Jackson and the AU backfield?
Closest they came was a 1982 when a true freshmen Marcus Dupree absolutely had his way with their defense. But he was already off the team by the time they played in 83
