What would you have said if Tennessee had hired John Gruden a couple years ago? I would have shite my pants.

Tennessee never even offered Gruden. I would not have been scared at all that Gruden would make UT great again.

You just compared this potential hire to Mike Shula. Think about that.

Yes, I did. There are plenty of similarities, mainly being that both were professional coaches with no college coaching experience.

If being a great player who won championships and having been a head NBA coach were good qualifiers, why was Isiah Thomas such a failure at the college level?

Are you auburnphan's Bama alter? All of that has already been addressed. Stop trolling. Comparing Johnson to Shula is an absolute joke. Shula was a position coach in the league who got the job because of his name.

Nope, not trolling just being realistic. Could point out that Johnson really only got his coaching job because of his name. He got a head coaching job only a year after he retired from playing. That happened to be with a completely STACKED team.....but apparently facts mean you are just trolling

When he wasnt coaching a stacked team, he went 60-116 and was swiftly let go.

The dude has only coached TWO teams total. Has had ZERO college coaching mentors, ZERO recruiting experience, ZERO experience working with mostly 18-21 year old kids, ZERO experience working with non-NBA talent.

Am I really supposed to look at this and say gee that is a smart hire? He has ONE thing going for him and thats his name. At least Shula had coached at more than 2 places before he took the Bama job.

Sorry I cant suspend reality and live in fantasyland like you. All ive done in this thread is present facts and all yall have done is say things like "wow" "you are an auburn alter" "you are a troll" "thats a stretch"

Its a bad hire. Could he prove me wrong? Sure, but historical evidence is not on Bama's side here.

If you are not happy with the hire of AJ why don't you just STFU and GTFO.
No one wants to hear your whining.

I'll copy and paste the first post on the previous page that was posted by UAsports23 that you either again conveniently didn't see or flat out ignored. I don't think there's anything left to say about Thomas.

quote:

Are you really comparing AJ to Isiah Thomas? The Isiah Thomas who didn't have the best personality. Never won over .585 in NBA. Never won Coach of the Year. Had a drug overdose on lunesta and then told everyone that it wasn't him that went to the hospital but instead his 17 yr old daughter? The Isiah Thomas who was sued due to sexual harrassment? The leader of the Detroit Pistons "Bad Boys"? The Isiah Thomas who created a controversy @ NBA All star game because they wouldn't pass the ball to Jordan because he was receiving too much attn?

Yea, please let's compare the too about why Isiah failed and how NBA experience doesn't help Bama because it didn't with Isiah.

In his defense, he has only brought up valid criticisms. Avery is gonna learn how to recruit and has no experience in the college game. That's a big leap at the money were probably gonna pay him. Under the circumstances though, I think he was the best we could get.

He's raised valid criticisms but is also ignoring the positives. jumping to the conclusion that its a terrible hire before he's even been announced is dumb or just trolling.

You realize his comment was directed towards another Bama fan right?

There have been some rational posts about this hire by Auburn fans overall.

It wasn't Greg Marshall but the name and the resume is a very respectable hire. He's coached at a high level, let's see if his NBA ties can help with recruiting.
