Just the fact that he is talking to the Bans AD is vindication. it will be ok if he doesn't ink a deal. It's a good sign that Battle is going for broke on this hire.
Vindication? Sorry, I don't get this logic. It has been understood that GM is bama's first choice.

this is, for lack of a better word, retarded.

And also proclaimed to the high heavens from every fanbase and media member outside of Tuscaloosa that it's a pipedream, and even reported by Pat Forde that Marshall told Bama to "not even worry about it."
It is at least a small victory that we've gotten to this point with a candidate most considered to be impossible to pull and likely wouldn't even consider the job.

Kudos. A coach is talking to your AD. Moral victory!!!

At this point, if he doesn't sign, I'd say it's a wash. The idiots who claimed that Marshall is a "pipe dream" will tell us he never seriously considered coming. It is clear now that we are a serious consideration, but being a serious consideration of a mid major coach, even one as successful as Marshall, is hardly a victory if he turns us down.

Every other fan base acted like he wouldn't even talk to Battle. Sorry you guys were wrong.
It's clear Bama is putting enough on the table to attract top coaches. Even if Marshall doesn't work out this is a good sign that we will still get a good coach.

I'm a big fan of Marshall...I hope he takes the Alabama offer and works his magic.
4-5 years down the line, when Calipari either leaves or retires - Marshall is there for Kentucky.

I mean we had news stations announce Donovan as HC in our search pre-Gillispie. That's how "done deal" it was.
Anybody want to talk about where he is right now?
In all seriousness it'd be a coup if Bama can get Marshall and a welcome boost to the conference. I'd be leery about declaring victory until he signs on the dotted line.

Can't be true, Tim Brando says no way

Most coaches from mid-majors would be stupid not to listen to any offers from any "major conf." schools. Again, I get a kick out of all you gumps who have a boner simply because your AD is talking to him.
ETA The time for wood is after he is hired.....not because he is talking to your AD. You guys have it bass akward.

What about the Rooney Rule, has Bama interviewed any minority candidates?

As much as I love the thought of Forde egg on his face, I don't see how you can blame anybody for thinking he looks somewhere like Texas or waits for Indiana to open first.

I agree wholeheartedly. It's the people talking in absolutes who have egg on their face. Forde hedged his bet by saying he got this from "a source"...but I think it's pretty clear from the way he phrased things that he dismissed the idea out of hand.
This conversation is now a little boring unless/until Marshall makes a decision. Of course the idiots are idiots...the interesting question is not whether someone would listen to an offer of millions of dollars, but if he will accept it.

Like Bruce Pearl's first choice would have been AU if any other decent University would have at least acknowledged him.

Except everything that was going against what Forde said like Marshall's own words...
