Not a flame, just wondering. Bama vacated wins all of 05, 06 and half of 07.

What was the story exactly, I remember the textbooks but why did it span such a long period of time? Was it one person specifically?

TIA

If I attended a vacated game, did I attend a game?

The NCAA's practice of vacating wins is stupid, but that's about par for the course when the NCAA is handling things.

It was a ton of players, a guy I knew played there at the time and it was basically a way of funneling the players cash. Basically just give them a bunch of books and buy them back at full price.

Agreed. But what was the story? Almost 3 years for a textbook scandal? What was the rest of the story?

Then "your friend" is an idiot...the players don't pay for books, and they return them at the end of the course, not sell them to the bookstore. The "value" of the impermissible benefit was what the books and materials they got for their friends would have cost a regular student.

Have to defer to a Bama fan for the whole story, but I know it involved athletes from a ton of different sports including a handful of football players. Think it was an administrative problem that was self reported and fixed by Bama, but was tied into their earlier Means probation. I'll let a Bama fan correct me or clarify.

In the words of a fellow poster in response to one of my first threads...

Oh good Lord you're dumb. The textbook system employed by Alabama at the time didn't allow for cash to exchange hands. If you were on a scholarship, academic or athletic, you "rented" the books for a semester and turned them in at the end, otherwise you owed UA money. The problem came with those on scholarship "renting" books for those not on scholarship.

Yes actually they do, the last media guide I got had the on the field wins listed, then the number after vacated wins were taken out. So they give both.
