Pretty much this. As Realist said, he wasn't fired for embarrassing us like he did with the cab incident, he must have some voodoo over the Athletic dept.

I get people wanting to give him a chance in the new facility. I just worry that if we give him 2-3 years and still nothing changes, then we just wasted all the excitement of the new arena. I can go either way though.

The Michael White thing intrigues me as an Alabama guy to replace Grant, but if I was an Ole Miss person it would really intrigue me. Would he feel awkward if his old boss was fired after a bunch of decent seasons, though?

In 2013 I thought we were one of the better teams in the country (in all serious there is really only about 4 elite teams then a bunch of good ones). We should of been a top 8 NCAAt seed but losing to state and USC killed that. Getting blown out at home by an average UK team didn't help either.

He's good. I mean it's just basketball so who really cares?

Probably not, because nothing has changed in almost 10 seasons. I'd liken it to Bianco, until he broke through to Omaha last season. The Marshall Hendo experiment bought him more time.

Dude, no. Bianco is so much better it isn't even funny. Bianco has to compete and recruit head to head with some of the best programs in all of college baseball. Unfortunately the SEC, and specifically the West, isn't even close to being able to make that claim in basketball. On top of that, Bianco's lack of success was centered around the school's failure to make it to Omaha in decades, there were few years that he hasn't finished in the top 64 teams in the country. Kennedy has only finished in the top 64 once in eight years.

That was a dang good team. Buckner and Holloway along with White, Henderson and Summers.
If Terrico White was on that 12-13 team, they would've been a top five squad in the country. Sadly he graduated after the 10-11 campaign

Mediocrity for OM basketball expectations is acceptable; so AK is safe there unless he really starts a downward spiral. They are willing to pay a lot more (relatively) for football coaches, recuits & players.

Even with new facilities AK still won't compete well for top recruits.

We also have the lowest basketball budget in the conference, and supposedly it 's half the amount of the next lowest(Miss. State).

Being middle of the pack with bottom of the barrel resource is doing pretty well. An "average" coach would be fielding the kind of shite teams that Auburn and State have produced lately.

Seriously, there is no doubt he can produce wins. He had a run in with the law a few years back. He called a cabby a racial slur that pertained to his middle eastern ethnicity. Should/could haven been fired. Wasn't but his teams take on his personality, streaky and undisciplined. He is fine for Ole Miss, and maybe the NBA, because of his freestyle of play and letting people loose.

He was 8-21 vs Stansbury. Couldn't out recruit him. Couldn't out coach him. Now he can beat State for recruits and out coach Rick Ray. It's helped his team just enough. Could improve more if he continues to take advantage of the situation. Big mistake for the Bullies.

I'm sorry but if you can't out-recruit Mississippi State in any sport you aren't a good coach. The Final Four in 1996 happened bc Richard Williams cheated in ways that SMU couldn't fathom.

He called the guy a Muslim. Is that a crime?

No foul here.

He's the winningest basketball coach we've ever had... Averages over 20 wins a year... Team GPA is higher than it's ever been and (at times) we compete well with good teams... Even if AK turns a corner and we start consistently making the field of 68 in our new gym no other schools will come after him due to the cab incident... When you're a perennial bottom feeder basketball school you have to consider shite like that.

On top of all this, look at what happened to our instate rival 100 miles down the road when they fired their winningest coach all time.
