Why is Alabama suddenly so concerned about protecting a rivalry?

Georgia Tech is in their fight song yet they haven't played since 1984 and have only played 6 times after 1964
For 40 years Alabama was ok with not playing Auburn. 40 years!
So why does UT have to be played every year? Why does that rivalry have to be protected at the detriment of the conference?

what else does tennessee have right now other than playing bama? Maybe they're just being good neighbors.

I had to go look up the lyrics - Alabama used to be obsessed with UGA and Georgia Tech, apparently.
They also cared a lot about the Sewanee Tigers enough to put them into the song too, so I guess that tells me times have changed

Why does Tennessee want to play alabama when they could have a rival game with Arkansas? 
Alabama- Auburn
Ole Miss- Vandy
Miss State - UGA
LSU - Flordia
Texas A&M - USCe
Arkansas - Tennessee
Missouri - Kentucky

It doesn't. If its that "cherished" they should have no problem playing it as a non conference game. Or, there has to be a way to let these two goobers play each other every year while the rest of the league splits it up. The Florida game means nothing to me.

Another moron that has apparently forgotten all about AU/UGA and the many other schools that voted in favor of keeping these games.

To be fair, their fight song declares:
"Send the Yellow Jackets out of the SEC!"
Which was successfully accomplished in 1964.
But it is odd that the only team from Tennessee in their fight song is Sewanee.
