3 national titles before age 50.

9-2 in bowls.

38-3 at OSU. 7-0 as an underdog.

142-26 career record.

He is very easy to dislike and hearing him speak is very annoying, but he is a football genius. I hate to admit it, but I think he and Saban are right there with one another as the best coaches in college football.

I thought Gus was the undisputed best in college? By the way, you missed a spot - there's a little dribble of CoachUrbanMeyer on your chin there.

Saban's peaked... Meyer has another 8-10 years at his prime.

No doubt. He's the king right now.

Love that we had him for a while.

So how long before he heads to Notre Dame?

I'd like to see him maintain success somewhere before crowning him the best. You can't gloss over how he left UF and walked into a near perfect situation at OSU.

He is an elite coach though. No doubt about that.

It is really amazing.

He has never even come close to not having a winning season and he took over two bad programs. His first season as HC he took a 2-9 team to 9-3.

He has also won the conference championship in 5 of his 11 seasons his team was eligible for it.

We all know why this thread was started. They are like cockroaches scurrying to find someone to put ahead of Saban.

That being said, I think Meyer HAS sustained success. He built Utah into a serious program before winning two titles at Florida and now this. What he did at Utah was more impressive than Saban at Michigan State (considering where the two programs started), and what he did at Florida equals what Saban did at LSU (considering where the two programs started). Another title at Ohio State and you can start to compare the two in earnest.

Meyer still has the want-to, the edge.

Saban is done.

Only problem with that is Urban has retired once already. Maybe he has found his balance.

I love Urban Meyer.

Beats Alabama. Dominates the Big 10. And winless against Auburn. Good guy, he is.

He is elite. I don't know about the best yet.

Can we not be so goddamn reactionary about everything?

I meant sustaining success at one school for more than 5 years. There's a point that things get tougher once a coach & program move beyond the building phase.

This isn't about being reactionary, it's about a desperate attempt to find someone to put ahead of Saban. Last year he was telling us how Malzahn had destroyed Saban and you could put a fork in him.

If Mississippi State could have beaten Ole Miss and snuck into the playoff and won, we'd be hearing how Dan Mullen is the best coach in football. It's simply not to be taken seriously.

I don't think this is reactionary. He has a 12 year track record that exceeds every other coach in college by a pretty wide margin no matter how you look at it.
