That was kind of my point. Its easy (relatively) to win when everyone is hungry. Sustaining that over several years is the real test

2 titles in 3 years was impressive at UF, but he struggled to maintain that type of excellence and ducked out when he realized he was going to have a bit of rebuilding to do. I would undoubtedly put him in the top 3 with Saban and Harbaugh though.

Saban has done a much better job at maintaining than Urban has. People forget what a disaster his season was in 2010 after Tebow left. He didn't recruit for the post-Tebow era. Saban still has Bama a top competitor and we still won the SEC in 2014.

Came here to say this exact thing. In his 6th year at UF he fell flat on his face and left Florida without a D1 caliber QB. Sure Cam was supposed to be there, but the laptop incident was 2 years old at that point and he should've developed a better replacement for Tebow than John Brantley.

Nick Saban is the best coach.

As much as I dislike him for what he did at UF, the part about being a dishonest scumbag. he probably is the best coach in college football right now. If he stays at OSU and doesn't melt down, he could win several national championships there, but things started to unravel at UF after the first national championship with favoritism to some players, problems with players, etc. Let's see how it goes at OSU, but you have to give him credit for being a great coach.

You are ineffective in hiding your intentions. And never right. Perfect record in that regard.

But don't you have to factor that in when you judge his overall record?

I'm not saying Meyer isn't one of the top 2 coaches in the nation. He could very well surpass everyone in the history of the game...but the only time he's has stayed at a program for an extended period of time, that program eventually went off the rails. Let's see how things play out in Columbus before we put Meyer's face on the Mt. Rushmore of College Football.

Everytime Saban has actually won against Urban Meyer it's been a god damn beat down. Urban Meyer always gets his victories against Saban in the late 4th.

Wrong. He was 13-1 and 13-1 in his final two seasons at UF. He never fell on his face.

And if he had stayed at UF, UF may have still been good in 2010.

Meyer won big with terrible talent at other schools. He has never fallen on his face anywhere.

This is a huge difference from Saban IMO. Saban was basically a 6-6 coach his first three years at MSU. He was like 8-4 with multiple blowout losses his 4th year. He only had one good year at MSU. Saban had a losing record in the NFL. Saban was 6-6 his first regular season at bama.

Meyer has never had those problems. He has shown he can and will win with shitty talent. Meyer has never even come close to a losing season. Saban has several and several .500 seasons.

Meyer has a better overall record. A better record with his current school. A better bowl record. A better record when his team is not favored.

He just beat Saban with less talent last week.

Meyer is the top coach in college.

Actually there is. No doubt Meyer's results over a shorter lifespan are superior but I think Saban is a better coach overall with 4 NC's. Here's why. Meyer relies on a superior athletes at the QB position; without this key element, Meyer's offense is not nearly as effective. In contrast Saban has won with superior defense and conservative offense managed by mediocre QB's.

All I'm saying is Saban had to coach all other aspects of the game with greater emphasis on detail and execution while Meyer has often been bailed out by superior athleticism at the QB position. Last night was a good example. In spite of a lopsided TO ratio in Oregon's favor, OSU still dominated because Jones was able to get first downs in critical situations with pure athleticism and a cannon arm. Still, I have to give Meyer credit for recognizing the superior athletic QB model and recruiting not 1 but 3 freak athletes at the QB position.

Moral of the story: all teams seriously considering contending for a NC better be looking for TE sized QB's. The models is clear. See: Tebow, Cam Newton, Winston, Mariota and now Cardale Jones. Meanwhile, Alabama gave NC, Ohio St., all they could stand with 6' 180lbs Blake Sims. Cardale Jones is 6'5" 250lbs.

Meyer was 8-5 in his last year at UF. He was there in 2010. You know, his last year at UF.

And the only losing season I'm aware of by Saban was his final year at Miami.

Meyer is a great coach. No need to prop him up even more to fit your little fantasy and show off you LBS.

Your right. Saban was 6-5, 6-6, 7-5, 6-6 at MSU his first 4 years

I thought he was at least as good as Saban before this season. This season showed just exactly how damn good he is at offensive coaching and more specifically QB coaching. There isn't a better offensive coach outside of the pros in football.
+1

Urban is the an elite college coach, I don't know of a better offensive mind in the game today.
