So many dickheads here. If you don't believe in someone's faith you don't have to try and tear it down. Kinda like if you have a kid that you believe is beautiful, I may think it's the ugliest piece of shite I have ever seen, but I won't tell you that. What's the point?

whats the point

They think it makes them look smart. It's not enough that they believe what they do....they have to try and talk down to everyone else as a means to make themselves feel better and fill their emptiness inside.

Kinda like people trying to look like they're rich by buying flashy shite and making fun of the old guy in the truck.....who could buy and sell them three times over but doesn't GAS enough to care or flaunt it.

Just ignore them and move on....we'll all have the answer to that question soon enough...

people can post what they want. Others can disagree. Then others can disagree some more. How it works. people have been debating religion and politics forever and in America and on this board that is a right.

Didn't say that you don't have the right to disagree/post about it. I just don't see the need to be a dick about it.Why not just ignore the thread since the op wasn't trying to start a debate. I agree with Squatch , some people feel the need to feel smarter than others by belittling them or their beliefs

I dont see the need for you to be a dick about a guy being a dick by calling him a dick. you might not think it is being a dick to call another guy a dick but some other guy might.then that guy calls you on it (without calling you a dick), and now the whole I love Jesus and the real meaning of Christmas thread goes off on a tangent with guys calling dick on each other...and Jesus threads and penile accusations should never coincide.

Jesus thread over here....penis threads way over there.

don't even get me started on all the rich pickup driving old men secretly driving around with bags of money under their beds or whether 50,000 was a large city 2000 years ago.

I think every human being has doubts at some point in their lives. It does not mean we turn our backs...and any doubts I have ever heard have gone away. but in various points of our lives most people might have doubts. What Christ did for us is beyone human comprehension. Now, that does not mean I carry those doubts around me daily. There are no doubts in my mid, now. But I would be lying if I said there have never been any doubts.

Even Job questioned God as to why he allowed him to go through the trials that befell him. Jonah, when instructed to go to Ninevah turned and went in the opposite direction. Peter denied Christ three times....and the list goes on and on.

Yes, you are correct. Good think God is not imaginary.

I mean, yea, there were cities bigger than Jerusalem at the time but it was still pretty large compared to the population which would have been around 150 million.

I wasn't REALLY arguing with you because I would have to do more research. But I know ninevah was a large city as was Rome, Venice (Not sure if Venice was at this point in history) but there were a number of large cities.

Here is an interesting fact, though. You are correct that jerusalem had around 40,000-50,000 people that lived there. What made Jerusalem so important was the Temple built by Herod. Attached to the emple was a building called Castle Antonia where Roman soldiers were garrisoned. During Passover the city of Jerusalem would swell to about 1 million people. People traveling from the surrounding areas and foreign countries to worship. Think about it. a 50,000 population city swelling to 1,000,000! These are, of course estimates...but mind boggling nonetheless!

That's ok. If my faith can't stand questioning of others it is't much of a faith.

Polite society says we should respect each others beliefs, but that might be too much political correctness. I don't believ as many on this board, but I would never mock what they believe...but as I said...it doesn't bother me TOO much!

I didn't think it did, but wasn't sure. I knew it was a huge city in it's prime, though.

Yeah it was Ravenna before it became Venice, which became the capital of the empire in the 4th-5th century.

Paul was better than that...I believe there is a lost book of the Bible entitled "The Apostle Paul's Epistle to Those Queers in New Orleans" where he threatens to send in a legion of angels to castrate every priest in the city should they refuse to stop playing with alter boy ding dongs....

But I could be wrong.

Gata have faith...

Ah...prove it. You can't? Gata have faith?

That's cool. See, I'm a skeptic...I use logic and reason (those supposed "gifts" from god") to temper emotion and fantastical notions. God stopped passing my BS detector quite some time ago.

Now I'm stuck with all of this useless knowledge from my misspent Pentecostal youth...what to do, what to do....?

PR Department? 12 men made up of fishermen, a tax collector, doctor and one or two others? Ok. If you think that is a high powered PR department....

Those were just the first publicists to handle the account...when others realized the power they could wield over people and the money and wealth that power meant they took up the oars and started rowing in the same direction. The follow on publicists were popes and priests and kings and charlotans of all stripes, each and every one with an agenda to further his or her own power and wealth.

You have to travel through Europe to really get a feel for the size and scope of the long con that religion has been playing for a couple of thousand years. When you are traveling long in the middle of no where and there is a massive, ornate church sitting on a hill top that is almost inaccessible and you learn that thing was built so that peasants could look up to their masters and be impressed with his wealth while at the same time the master could literally look down on his subjects while he ws praying you have to ask yourself if there is anything more to it than a straight sles job? And then you realize how many times the bible, supposedly written in part by God (or at least inspired by) explains how much better off poor people are than wealthy people it is abundantly clear that the poor are simply being hosed.

Finally go to the Vatican and have a look around at the wealth that has been stolen by the church from people who needed it to succor themselves and done so under a veil of lies so egregious that were there a hell anyone spreading them would certainly spend some time there and if your faith isn't demolished you will have witnessed a true miracle.

And of course now someone will come along and say that this is religion and the church and not God but to that I say frick God....if the count can't see that those representing him on earth are the worst people who ever shite between a pair of sandals and allows them to continue to perpetrate the single worse crime ever against humanity then he if he does exist (he doesn't) then he is culpable. He wiped all of mankind off the planet except for one family for being assholes yet he has ignored for centuries the theft of wealth and resources in his name? And y'all find this a positive thing and base a LOT of life decisions on being part of this criminal activity??? WOW....

By the way, Merry Christmas!!!!
