2 national titles compared to three

Did LSU fans already forget about Saban's title in 2003?

Did you not read the chart and see what we are comparing?

Neither invented their program... but Saban's work is more impressive considering the level competition.

Saban is 8-10 against top 10. Pete is 14-5 against top 10. It is clear Pete actually handles the tough competition better. Saban makes his money by pretty much never losing to the inferior team, where Pete will

What do Saban's numbers look like if he took the USC job whenever Carroll got there?

What do Pete's look like if he took over UA in 07?

In my opinion barely anything changes. I think they are both cream of the crop in the college ranks. They excel at different things but the end result is the same

It is really a shame that USC didn't get an opportunity to play more SEC teams in bowls, or otherwise.

2003 USC shutout a Preseason #1 Auburn.
2006 USC clobbered 2006 SEC West Champion Arkansas.

Looking back, those 2003, 2007, and 2008 USC teams had just as much of a right to play for the National Championship as LSU ('03 & '07), Oklahoma ('03 & '08), and Florida ('08).

Exactly. That is why I hate the pure "titles" argument. Two teams could have the same record but one gets "voted in" It really is such shite how champions were/are decided

Yep. Its a shame that coaches and players have no control over making it to a national title in cfb. Cfb national title is the most subjective title in all of sports. After every single bcscg, analyst would debate over whether or not the two participants were correct.

Which has nothing to do with the thread.

Well, are you assuming if he stayed at USC he was about to be 4-5 loss coach?

Well, the thread is skewed towards Saban because Carroll can actually hack it in the pros.

On his second stint. 16-16 in his first 2 years, which was about the same as Saban's.

What did Saban do when he was a .500 coach in the NFL?

Nit picking a little but it looks like the OP has Saban's total showing the forfieted games but is not reflecting Carrol's forfeited games for 04 and 05 and the vacated title in 04.
