Lane Kiffen's impact beyond X's & O's

I must preface this post by saying when I heard that Bama hired Kiffen I was like most & thought it was an epic disaster waiting to happen. It just did not seem like their personalities were compatible. To the contrary, it seems like a brilliant move as Kiffen has turned Bama's O from serviceable to prolific. Beyond that though, I believe his success goes much deeper. Saban has been an insufferable prick up to this point in his career. This season I couldnt put my finger on it but found myself not only able to tolerate listening to him but downright enjoying it. This season he has really come off as more human and less sociopath. After watching Kiffen's speech at that awards deal the other day I cant help but believe he is at least partially responsible for this turnaround. Either way its been fun to watch his personal growth.

Saban is a very personable guy, he just doesn't like dumb questions from the media and isn't shy about calling them out on dumb questions. You don't recruit the way Saban has recruited if you're an insufferable prick. You're not going to find one of his former players at Alabama that doesn't appreciate everything he's done for them either. (Sans those that were beyond helping)

I agree. I've gone from hating Kiffin and saban to actually kindve liking them both.

Kiffen is a snake in the grass, never to be trusted ... but hey, he's always been a very decent offensive mind so that's all that really matters.

This season has been extremely encouraging in that Saban is proving he can and will adapt when necessary to try and stay on top. He is not getting complacent like some successful older coaches have in the past. He looks like he is enjoying this and can do it for quite a few more years.
And I agree that Saban has taken a bit of a different approach personality wise this season and this team has responded nicely to it.
Don't know how much is Kiffen, but I can tell Saban feels pretty vindicated by how the Kiffen experiment has turned out.

you cant judge a mans true personality from how they act recruiting any more than you can how they act trying to get in a chicks pants. I have seen plenty of comments from former players and assistants under him who said he was an insufferable a-hole in the past.

I will have to agree. I think this partnership has been great for both. I never thought much of Kiffin as a person and always thought Saban could come across as a prick sometimes. Im not sure what has made the difference, but both have became much more likeable. I just hope that doesnt affect anything on the field.

I think it had more to do with lowered expectations, and the tremendous growth we had during the season. He had his moments (after Arky), but he did seen to have more fun than in past seasons. Which I live to see. I'd love to have him coach for at least another 5 years, hopefully until he's 70.

what I figured was:
a) Saban recognized Kiffin was a good tactical coach
b) Saban knew Kiffin would at least not hurt the Bama recruiting juggernaut even if he didn't really help it that much.
c) Saban knew Kiffin wouldn't have to be slapped down into knowing his place in the Bama pecking order.
Basically Saban knew he would get what he needed in a competent OC at the very least, and anything more would be gravy. People who bet on Saban to brainfart more than a couple of times a decade are gonna have an empty piggy bank.

I agree completely, but I will be the first to admit that I was a little concerned at first. It has obviously worked out pretty good so far. It wasnt meant serious.

It will be a nice bonus if he stays around one more year but I won't hold my breath. I too thought this thing was doomed from the start. This offense really is a thing of beauty when it's working right. It's really more multiple than most offenses you will see and very easy to adapt to doing other stuff with it.
