1. Madden is not a point guard. he can hide it against inferior competition but real high level D1 pg's eat him alive. he's got led feet. he can't beat anyone off the dribble nor can he stay in front of his man on defense, the pg breaks madden down and causes the entire defense to collapse. This team won't win an nCAA game with madden playing the point. And while he's a better ball handler / decision maker than he was 2 years ago, he's still well below avg.

2. i hate coach anderson's offense sets. watch iowa state how they space the ball and watch us. it's night and day.

3. we are not a good defensive team whatsoever. we don't play with any intensity or discipline. I mean, i've played ball my entire life, and on a few teams we pressed the entire game but even within a press there are rules and shite lol. you just don't run aroun dand try to scare people into turning the ball over. They've never tried to imploy a half court trap which IMHO would be more effective than a full court press.

We don't know how to play help defense, the guards don't know how to drop the pivot foot and stay in front of your man, we hand check.

We're just not a good team on defense. if you space us out after you break the press you can pretty much name your shot.

4. I would sit bell and start watkins

5. we will be MUCH better once beard can take over the point. I'm willing to give up portis, to get rid of madden at this point. they cancel each other out. A starting line up with a sophmore beard, a senior bell, a senior qualls, a senior williams and a junior kingsly will be a pretty salty defensive team with no big egos.

we're getting our arse kicked on the road against a good team that is highly motivated to get back on track. i wouldnt read a hell of lot more into it.

Just a good team at home that doesn't lose there like Arkansas.

They're shooting 61% from the floor and 47% from 3. Hell we shoot like that at home too.

I would respond, but it would be a waste of time because of:

He doesn't run set plays, his teams run an actual offense.

Our low post defense sucks
Can we get Portis and Kingsley in at the same time?
Oh and Beard will be a beast

Madden is the brandon allen of the basketball team

the problem is, he thinks he's a PG and he's not, and we recruited him as a PG and have no other vet PGs on the team. he's too good to bench but never will be good enough to win serious games with. he can't play a lick of defense and he single handily killed any run we tried to go on.

this team would be MUCH better if beard started. he's a MUCH better shooter he's a better decision maker, eh's a better ball handler, and he's a better defensive presence.

I'm sure in your mind the team needs a different point guard to set up and run the sets.

You would be wrong, for a variety of reasons, not worth arguing.

In my mind I'm wondering why no one wants to discuss basketball or the team until immediately after a loss.

Madden is slow. Very very slow. He gets beat off the dribble consistently. I don't have much else against him, but he's a fricking statue on defense.

Beards first three contributions were turnovers. Madden had a bad game, and beard has potential, but youre melting pretty hard.

this. dude you aren't the only one on the planet that understand a motion offense lol. I get it. there are no set plays. we ran motion offense in HS and AAU. But it doesn't change the fact that madden is slow as molasses.

nor am i "melting". we'll be fine. we'll easily win 20 this year and eaisly make the dance. But for this team to reach it's potential you got o get someone else on the point to guard other point guards and not have your defense broken down

So you are melting just to melt.

You are already changing why you are melting after realizing your had no heated ground to start the melt.

We shot about as poorly as we could and they shot very well. As others have said, I'm not reading too much into this. It wasn't our night.

its early december. Durham and Beard are being eased into things. i think we will all be disappointed if the rotation isnt a little different in late feb.

It doesn't matter if you move Madden to one of the other guard slots, it won't change the him being slow on defense, it won't put him on a slower offensive player. The rotations used on defense leads to all 5 having to guard the opposite 5 during the game and possessions.

Same on the offensive end as the "PG" does nothing more than bring the ball up the court, which is what you where you would want this slow player since the quicker guards have first movement to create an open look.

You keyed in on the problem tonight, turnovers, lots of them, several unforced through out the game.

The other problem was slow ball movement on the offensive end, poor skip passes out of the double team, good passes would have yielded wide open looks all night long, instead an extra pass or dribble was needed allowing ISU to rotate and reset their D.

Exactly, plenty of terrible defense to work on, but they were hitting contested shots too and there just isn't anything you can do there.

There is a reason Iowa State is even better than Arkansas at home, and we're damn near lights out at Bud Walton.

Need to move on quick, we cannot afford to go on the road Sunday at Clemson and lose again. If that happens our great start is lost and becomes average.
