Not sure I'd relate it to corndogs, but a lot of them made the trip and this town suddenly smells like the inside of an alligator's a-hole.

It is the smell of the inside of crew boats, drilling rigs, and offshore construction vessels in general. Once that shite gets in your clothes, it takes several wash cycles to leave. The crew van probably drove them from freshwater city directly to CS.
