Wow, even worse than 3rd & Grantham! The question is how UGA's run-based offense fares against Ward's defense which has been torched via the passing game.

Via SDS:

Lorenzo Ward’s defense is ice cold. The blame can be placed on players as well as scheme. South Carolina hasn’t tackled well when the Gamecocks have been in position to make plays and soft coverages have led to sizable gains on third down. The raw numbers are terrifying — 416.0 passing yards allowed per game (125th out of 127 FBS teams), a nation’s worst 62.1 conversion rate on third down and 123rd in total defense (566.5 yards per game). South Carolina’s defensive struggles could be a season-long question if the Gamecocks can’t find a way to get off the field on third down.

If there's anything you can be sure of its that our game will be when they turn it all around. That's just the way of the universe.

They will definitely load up to stop our running game, so they may be even more vulnerable to a short, quick, precision passing game. Murray became very good at it his last two years. I think Mason should excel at it as well. This will be the week we find out.

A&M and ECU both run crazy pass offensives. They will both finish top 10 in passing attack...no surprise USC is low in ypg

While I think SC has declined on defense compared to last season, the more I consider this game in Columbia, the closer I think the score will be.

While I agree SC's defense is looking bad so far, ours isn't exactly an iron curtain. Our secondary is just as suspect imo...we have proven nothing.

While Dylan is no world beater, SC's receiving corps is legit and will make some plays Saturday. I expect a shoot out of sorts tbh.

^This. I just hope that Dylan doesn't have a Heisman day on us.

With MM and JSW out, what are ya'll hearing about Sony and Mack being put into the WR role?

I have a feeling that their D will be playing lights out trying to stop the run and while we have no real legit deep threat, I think that the short ones will be there. I expect this game to rest in Mason's hands.

I wouldn't imagine they'd put them in a full time role like that. I would, however, flex them out at times like we saw against Clemson. I think they'll try to get a combination of Michel/iMac/Marshall on the field at the same time. That creates some serious matchup issues since all three can catch the ball.

Start them in the shotgun - Michel and Marshall to the left/right of Mason. Put Michel in motion to the slot, fake to Marshall and have Michel on a WR screen or a slant on a biting linebacker. I just got a Chubb typing that out.

They will load the box with 8 or 9, play tight coverage and challenge Mason to beat them. If Gurley can still get good yardage with them loading the box, then we could win by 2 TD's or more. If not, then it depend on how well Mason plays. TO's and special teams might well be the difference in the which should favor Georgia.

If they want to play man-to-man outside then we need to put McKenzie and Davis in there and throw deep. Their corners have been horrible at jamming receivers and if there's no safety help over top then they can easily be burned.

Should be the first play on offense for the game. They're expecting us to run. Let's throw the deep ball first. Score quick and take the crowd out of the game.

I'm with ya. Georgia also doesn't have near the same caliber of pass attack. No amount of Kool Aid can cover that up. I'm still convinced this game is close as hell.

Yep, this game could boil down to which QB and receivers can make big plays.

Mason needs to throw the ball. If for nothing else than to keep the cocks honest. Screens, quick slants & short routes are great and build confidence, but we can expose their d with some bombs. Bobo needs to pick his spots and we'll eclipse 20, if not 30, points in WB.

First play will probably be a WR screen.

Second play will probably be Gurley between the tackles.

I'm thinking that our passing game will be "just good enough" to take pressure off of the running game, which will dominate USCe.

I think we go deep a few times, but I've got a feeling that there will be enough variation in the play calling to let us do our thing in the ground game.

The toss sweep might be able to wreck USC if we can get just a little help from our passing game. Darius English is a light DE and a pass rushing specialist...I'd run that toss at him no less than 12 times. ECU ate him alive in run blocking and Theus is more talented than all five of their linemen put together.

This early in the season stats can be really skewed. We hung 460 yds and 45 pts on a much better D. If the Dawgs take care of business and don't fall back on ways of the past, we should roll. Pruitt is our difference-maker.
