quote:

A familiar theme surfaced during a Mark Richt press conference to kick off fall camp.

Off-field player issues.

You might have heard -- Mark Richt has lost control of his program.

Again.

For, like, the seventh straight year.

quote:

"Just because we've got guys suspended isn't evidence we have a discipline problem," Richt said. "It's evidence that we discipline our players. It's evidence there's accountability. ... Sometimes when you make part of your discipline playing time, it becomes a very public thing. Some of your dirty laundry gets out there in public. I'm willing to take that risk if the process will help these guys grow into men. If we ignore stuff they do and act like it didn't happen and sweep it under the rug like the other guys, let them get away with it or whatever, what are we teaching? We are setting them up for failure down the road."

So, UGA players only commit crimes if Richt disciplines them?

If he only applied that mindset to their committing penalties on the field.

I couldn't find anywhere in his comments where he claimed other programs don't discipline. All I read was that he was explaining what his program does.

Unless I missed something, this thread title seems rather disingenuous. I have no problem with what Richt said.

So happy that there is at least one person on this board that reading comprehension has not eluded. You have begun the process of restoring my faith in humanity.

So, players getting arrested is part of UGA's discipline policy?

Is he part of the police ride-along program?

One of our kids just graduated from UGA. She got a great education and had a great experience. Not a UGA fan, but spent 4 years watching the dawgs closer than I normally would because of her.

I will say this, I believe Mark Richt is a good coach and a good leader for that program, but SOMETHING is going on there. Not sure what. Personally, I think the players are not scared of Richt on any level. Maybe with Pruitt there now, that might change some, but I think fear factor plays in to rules respect, especially in the case of some kids who didnt grow up in families with strong male influences around.
