Soccer is really getting popular in the US. The World Cup helped show that, as did 109,000 to watch it in the Big House recently.

With all the rugrats playing it, it is projected to continue to increase in popularity.

It should be an SEC sponsored sport. With all the money that should be coming in from the SEC, schools should be able to afford it (you already have a soccer field from women's soccer, mainly just the cost of schollies and travel). All you need is another women's sport to offset the scholarships for Title IX purposes.

Time for the SEC to get ahead of the curve.

No it wouldn't. Nobody in the south cares about soccer enough for it to be successful

Its another sport that can't support itself and thus take even more money away from football, no thanks.

Eh, the metro Atlanta area is lousy with soccer players (same as with Lacrosse). Though I can see where it's not exactly embraced in, say, Alabama or Mississippi.

3 reasons why men's soccer won't succeed in the SEC:

Fall - Football
Winter - Basketball
Spring - Baseball

No where to fit it in

You know NCAA soccer is a fall sport right? You really think people will care during football season?

You are talking about schools adding 2 more non-revenue (or little revenue) sports now. Not happening.

They're probably going to change the rule so that the season start in the fall, breaks for Christmas, and ends in the spring.

They should give baseball 25 full scholarships before even thinking about this. The 11.7 is nonsense and private schools can give "need money" that others can't.

Kids have always played soccer. I played soccer badly before I discovered I could play football badly. Most of them grow up to play better things.
