Still a long way to go, but Mayden moved us out of his top 5 today

Oh boy

North Shore (TX) CB Eric Monroe announce via Twitter this evening that he would be "committing soon." The five-star prospect has not set an official date for his announcement but indicated his decision would come down to LSU and Texas A&M.
Monroe, who will be attending A&M's first junior day on January 25th, said the Aggies' recent hire of John Chavis was a huge plus for Kevin Sumlin's program. On top of that, the future All-American told GigEm247 that he's hoping to possibly play with his former teammate Zach Whitley, who's looking to transfer to Texas A&M.

It would be a great get, but it would probably push Deontay Anderson out of the picture if that were to happen. Never thought we would grab all three 5* safeties of the 2016 class from Texas. 2/3 sounds about right since Brandon Jones is also very high on us and came close to committing to us last summer a couple times.

Someone posted that Anderson wants to play CB. Monroe can also play CB. I can see us legitimately getting all three guys.

looks like early signing period might happen for the '16 class

Tuesday at the American Football Coaches Association convention in Louisville, Susan Peal, NCAA associate director of operations who serves as liaison between the collegiate governing body and the commissioners, revealed the committee is leaning toward recommending a mid-December signing period. Peal said that window would likely coincide with the midyear junior-college transfer signing date that occurs each year in the third week of December.

"Based on all of the feedback -- and there are all kinds of dates out there of what people want -- the most favorable option the committee has seen seems to be for an early signing day in December, something that's in line with the midyear junior-college transfer signing date," Peal said.

If it passes, it could be in place for the 2016 recruiting class.

Been wanting this for a while. It will really help clear up who's committed and who's not. I think I would want one in Aug and then one in Feb. One early and the standard.

Yeah that's what the ACC was pushing for.

I wouldn't be a fan. You'd have to change a lot of rules if you did that though and really move the recruiting cycle up a year.

For instance, right now OVs aren't allowed before your SR year and before you take ACT/SAT. That would obviously have to change. And you wouldn't want to host in the off-season so now OVs would be in JR years? Projecting guys is hard enough as it is but now you'd have to do it based on SO tape and spring practices and it would be almost impossible. I just don't think it's a path you want to go down in football.

If you try to suggest not changing the OV rules btw, conferences outside of the SEC/ACC will revolt. They recruit out of region heavily and kids won't get the opportunity to visit basically neutering them long term.

Excellent points. Maybe Aug isn't the best idea.

I don't but that comes across like sour grapes to me. Maybe I'm reading into it too much but why would you announce on twitter that you weren't coming? The kid is from GA. Just don't show. No one would think twice about it. In fact, I'd be surprised if he actually showed

Sounds to me like we passed though I know absolutely nothing about him or why we would pass on a QB at this point

But didn't the staff already invite him? Why would they suddenly decide to pass?
