Temp is plummeting here. Gonna be 7 fricking degrees tomorrow with a high of 25.
In Alabama.
I've never known this kind of cold in Alabama, in my entire life. I'm from the Gulf Coast and I don't deal with sub-50 degree temps well at all. Tell me how to cope with the misery. Even 4 years in Philly didn't help. Brrrrrrrrrr.

Back in my day... it got down to -6 for a low.. but we still rode gocarts outside, without a toboggan or gloves. Cuz we were tough.

Apparently it'll be -1 by 10 am tomorrow with even lower than that with the wind chill.
And of course there's parents bitching about the kids being out of school tomorrow. "BUT THEY'LL BE INSIDE" or "THIS IS AN UNDUE BURDEN ON PARENTS". Errr except for that 30 minutes either at the bus stop or walking to school in which you'd sue the district's arse off of they got frostbite. And guess what, being a parent isn't always at your convenience.

They postponed schools here a day or two ago. Most aren't opening til around 10:30 or so.

Postponement wouldn't really work here because it's going to continue to get colder throughout the day just because of the timing.
It just gets annoying to see parents bitch about having to be a parent.

A good puffy down jacket, beanie with fleece liner around the inside, wool socks, gloves.
It's easier to stay warm when it's cold than to stay cool when it's hot outside. you can always be wearing the right layers to stay warm in the cold.

Funny I just logged on to start a similar thread.
It's 4 degrees right now. Forcast low is -14 tonight. We got 6 inches of snow this morning.
So we good.

Had a kid helping me do some work Friday, and there was Ice spewed up out of the ground. The kid was amazed, he said he had never seen that before and he is 18 years old. I remember that being a fairly regular thing when I was kid, but it has been a pretty long while since we had much real cold weather in Alabama.
